Hello,

I drive a Volkswagen Golf IV 1.9 TDI with 66 kW (engine code: ALH).
Does anyone know what the typical boost pressure (in bar) is for the Garrett turbocharger that's installed, and what maximum boost it can handle?

I recently read a report that the same turbocharger is used in the 90, 110, and even the 130 horsepower versions. Is that really true?

See you later...

Nonsense...

The VTN 15 from the 90s operates with an overpressure of approximately 890 mbar.

'Models like the 110 series use different chargers.'

110s and similar models have different chargers.

Are you sure? I've read multiple times in this forum that the ALH (90 hp) and the ASV (110 hp) are identical except for the injectors and software. icon_question.gif

Hmm, it's possible that the 110 model also uses a VTN15 compressor, but with a different impeller design; I'm not sure about that.
Definitely the 115.
The 130 and 150 models have slightly different VTN17 specifications.

Hi.

These devices are called VNT, which stands for Variable Nozzle Technology.

ALH and AJM engines have the same turbocharger!

Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

Hi,

Take a look at the technical article with the target values for the different engines.
That also includes the turbocharger pressure.

Best regards, Rainer.

Yeah, you're right. But I usually just say GT15 etc... icon_wink.gif ...although hardly anyone understands that either.

The 130 hp PD engine definitely has a 17-inch turbocharger, while the 2.5 TDI engine uses a VNT 20 turbocharger.

I'm not sure about the ALH, but it's probably the same as the AFN with the VNT 15.

The VNT 15 can withstand a continuous pressure of up to 1.2 bar.
VNT 17 1.7 bar boost pressure icon_wink.gif
VNT 20, 2 bar, boost pressure.

"I got this information from a workshop that specializes in tuning VAG TDI engines."

Unfortunately, the VNT 20 is only conditionally recommended for use with the 1.9 TDI engine because it doesn't really start to function properly until around 2000 RPM. icon_smile.gif
