I've noticed that the last inspection for this Arosa 1.4 TDi (AMF) was done 9 months ago at ATU.
Inspection 07/2003
Manufactured: November 2001.
Mileage: 52,100 km at inspection.
KM (Kilometers) at 62,100 today.

Based on the invoice, I discovered yesterday that regular full synthetic 0W/40 oil was added instead of the PD oil (50501).

Furthermore, it seems that 4.75 liters were filled instead of the intended 3.8 liters.

Can it cause engine damage?
Is something gradually becoming noticeable?

Thank you.

Yes, with rear-wheel drive.
Normal oil is not designed to withstand the extreme stresses present in that environment.
When exactly the damage would occur -> no idea.

Try to get a statement from VW about when damages are to be expected (if you get a concrete answer, it will probably be "at any time").

Then call ATU and inform them that you will be charging them for the replacement of the camshaft, rocker arm shaft, and all the pressure distribution elements (PDEs) – which will amount to several thousand euros. Given this shock, they should at least be willing to fill you with the correct oil without you having to move the car even a meter – including a "flush" with the expensive PDE fluid to ensure that any remaining incorrect oil is removed.

Some "specialized businesses" simply have to learn through (financial) hardship icon_evil.gif.

Hi Ulf,

leider ist das Worst-Case schön eingetreten. The engine is broken.

Take a look at this:
Okay, I understand. Please provide the German text you want me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

First, let's take it slow...

Which standard does the oil used meet?
For the PD engine without the LongLife service, an oil meeting the VW 50501 standard is sufficient. This standard is met by many oils.
I would first check whether the oil being used meets the required standard. Otherwise, I would inform the workshop about the potential consequences and pursue a claim for damages.

I checked it out at ATU, and the VL6475 (ATU designation) 0W/40 only meets the 50500 standard and NOT the 50501 standard!

Furthermore, during the oil change at a mileage of 52,100 km, the engine was also treated with the Fit+Safe engine cleaner! www.fit-safe.de
It costs an extra 15.50 for the stuff.

Shouldn't this be used with older machines?

That's the wrong oil!
There is a risk that the PD (positive displacement) drive and the PD element itself may suffer damage over time. The rest of the engine's mechanics should not be affected by the oil.

So:
"Let's put ATU to the test... as Ulf already mentioned."

Hello,

I believe the salespeople are getting a commission from the company, and they're trying to sell this product to me and other customers who are waiting in line ahead of me.

I think that if you change the oil regularly, you might not need it.

Regards,

Tobias.

@Snowfun: It seems the "specialist workshop" is having some issues. icon_rolleyes.gif Are you actually covered by legal insurance? Sometimes, just mentioning a lawyer can work wonders. icon_wink.gif

Yes, I have legal insurance.
I think I might have to use their services soon.

I highly doubt that ATU will take responsibility for the engine damage.

How can I contact Volkswagen regarding an inquiry about engine oil?
I checked the website, but it's so disorganized that I couldn't find anything. Does anyone have an email address for someone I can contact?

And then I also noticed that the invoice stated that **4.75 liters** of oil were added and charged, even though the owner's manual for a 1.4 TDI specifies that only **3.80 liters** including the oil filter can fit!

Could excessive oil, after six months, potentially lead to defects?

Hello,

I think it's more likely that the liter of fluid was still in the mechanic's engine compartment. What was the abbreviation for ATU? Auto Töter Unger???
It is also quite questionable whether the invoice had much to do with the work actually performed.

Best regards,
Christian.

Now I've finally managed to get a technician sent over to assess the damage!

Oh, hallelujah... finally!

If icon_smile.gif your engine was really filled with a crazy 4.75 liters, don't you think that after 10,000 km, the engine would have already gotten rid of some of that oil itself? icon_wink.gif Then those few hundred kilometers you drove wouldn't be the deciding factor...
But honestly, knowing ATU as I do, that was just a simple typo. Besides, if you had a motor defect, it wouldn't have let you drive for so long.

I'm 100% sure that the turbocharger failed due to excessively high exhaust temperatures. This wouldn't be the first case of failures caused by generic chip tuners. The chip is definitely not a factor in your troubleshooting, right?

Da der Thread sonst in viele sinnlose Teile zerblättert....bitte hier weiter-fachsimpeln! Thank you!}
Okay, I'm ready. Please provide the German text you want me to translate.
