Hi,

Last weekend, I replaced the driver's side door lock on my Passat 3B (AFN) (you know, the microswitch... icon_wink.gif), and I almost had a heart attack when I tested the lock and the central locking on the driver's side didn't work: it only worked on the other doors and the trunk.

In this test, the entire interior trim, including the window regulators, was removed. After the window regulator motor was reconnected, everything worked perfectly. Okay, that's nice and good, but I'm still surprised that this seems to be related to the window regulator motor. So, how does that contribute to the door locking mechanism, especially since VW doesn't have any comfort closing functions...?

Best regards,
Marcus.

It might icon_rolleyes.gif not contribute much to solving your problem, but VW offers a comfort closing feature. My G3, manufactured in 1994, has four power windows and an electric sunroof, and until about a year ago, it would close everything when holding the key fob in the 'close' position and open all the windows when holding it in the 'open' position. Now, it only controls the windows, because the sunroof's cable is broken, and I've disconnected it.

Best regards,

Okay, I also have this type of locking mechanism. I was referring to the Audi-specific locking system that works via the remote control. However, I don't see a real connection between that and the central locking system not working via the remote control, since the remote control doesn't affect the power windows...

That's not just the window lifter...

The device is called the door control module, and the central locking and mirror actuators are connected to it.

And the one located in the driver's door is essentially the main control unit. All the window switches, mirror adjustments, and central locking buttons are connected to it. Furthermore, it initiates the automatic window opening and closing function.

That's a real eye-opener, thanks. I somehow didn't expect that the entire door control unit was essentially integrated into the window motor icon_smile.gif - and it wasn't really apparent from the existing wiring harness icon_smile.gif.
