Hello everyone,

My Seat Leon experienced two engine cutouts today, and now the emissions monitoring light is on.
It's a 1.9L BLS PD engine with a particulate filter.
The vehicle has only 40,000 km on the odometer and is just over two years old.

Is anyone aware of any issues? A brief phone call with the workshop, which isn't particularly knowledgeable about technical matters, mentioned something about moisture in a cable, and possibly the error log just needs to be cleared,... -> icon_rolleyes.gif

Do you have any tips for me?

Best regards.
Sepp.

Read the error codes using VCDS/VAG-COM, or have them read by a mechanic (possibly in exchange for a small donation to their coffee fund), and then post the *exact* error text here. Then, we can help you.

It would be pure guesswork without that information, and that wouldn't help anyone. Therefore, please take the time to provide the error message here, so we can definitely offer more targeted assistance.

Regards,
Guste.

Of course...

I was just at Bosch, and the error code indicates a voltage that is too high at the particulate filter differential pressure sensor.
'and the error can't be cleared, which is strange. It seems like it's causing the engine to stall when accelerating... the cables appear to be fine up to the chassis connector. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?'

They probably meant I might still get some kind of consideration, but the warranty expired 4 months ago.

Best regards.
Sepp.

At least with the Passat 3C, the DPF differential pressure sensor is a known issue, and there is a corresponding repair instruction for it from Volkswagen.

I can't check if it's the same with the Leon right now, but I could definitely imagine that it is.

Therefore, don't hesitate to ask for leniency.

Regards,
Guste.

PS: This was _not_ the exact error message, and no error number was provided...

'The car is now at the workshop. They replaced the differential pressure sensor and are still investigating the cause of the engine misfire. The suspicion is that it's related to the shut-off valve, possibly a mechanical issue with the EGR valve. I'm hoping this will all be covered under warranty, otherwise it's going to be expensive.'

Best regards.
Sepp.

Now I have the lion back, luckily I got everything for free...

Otherwise, it would have cost 600€.

'Differential pressure sensor replaced, and the EGR valve was supposedly clogged with carbon deposits.'

'I don't understand how something like this could happen to a vehicle with only 40,000 km and after just about two years...'
Can your experts explain this to me?

Best regards.
Sepp.

Too much city driving with low load, which results in a lot of exhaust gas recirculation.

'That's what the workshop also said... However, I mostly drive on country roads, and I only use the highway for about 20 km per trip, but even then, the car always goes uphill with full load... Would cleaning the EGR system next time be enough to fix the problem (besides the pressure sensor)?'

Best regards.

Check if the turbocharger boost hoses, intercooler, etc. are airtight, as well as the EGR pipes, seals around the turbocharger, etc.

How many kilometers can you drive before the DPF needs to regenerate?

How can I tell when the DPF is regenerating?

And how do you check the system for leaks?

Using VCDS, in measurement block 73 from the engine control unit:

Quote:
073,0,Particulate filter (vehicle data)
Valid only during the regeneration period!
Ambient conditions: 50-60 km/h / 3rd gear / RPM <= 3000 RPM.
073,1,Consumption since,Regeneration
073,2,Distance since,Regeneration.
073,3,Time since,regeneration

It might also be interesting to include measurement block 67 (ash content and learning value).

Quote:
And how do you check the system for leaks?

With enough practice, by "listening" carefully, by using the "hint" feature, or by using the forum's search function.

Best regards, Rainer.

Thank you, Rainer, for the information.

Unfortunately, I don't have a diagnostic tool, or the one I have is too old for this vehicle. Let's see, maybe it will pay off eventually...

Best regards.
Sepp.
