Hello, I recently bought an Audi 80 TDI 1Z, model year 1994, with 220,000 km on the odometer, for my son.
Engine runs smoothly, doesn't smoke, starts well, and has good power from 1200 RPM.
The engine occasionally stalls when accelerating to over 3500 RPM. Nothing happens when accelerating with 3/4 throttle.
Could those be air bubbles in the fuel? All the filters have been replaced.
The error memory has not yet been read.
That sounds like a faulty needle valve governor. That's exactly what's happening to me, but I don't have the money (around €140-170) to have it replaced yet. The best way to test it is to tap on the needle valve governor with a screwdriver while the engine is running. If that causes the engine to stutter, then you know it's the problem. If not, then it's not.
This information is also available in other discussions -> use the search function with terms like 'NHG, engine misfire 1Z', etc.
Check out ebay.de. I found an NHG there for 90 euros. But pay attention to the part number and the cable length (028130201 J, if I remember correctly) -> the Audi 80 TDI has the longest cable, otherwise you'll have to solder.
