Hello,
How do you properly set up a mechanical mod? I know there are different mods available, but maybe I can still use a setup guide for a different mod somehow, because I have absolutely no idea which potentiometer to adjust for what.
Thank you!

Hi.
Can you provide a photo?
Then maybe someone will recognize that part... Gruß Ulf

Turn P1 and P2 counterclockwise with a small screwdriver until you hear a click. Start the engine and then turn P1 clockwise until the idle speed begins to increase.
Rotate P2 clockwise as far as possible until black smoke is visible under full load, then rotate it back 1/4 of a turn, and it will be correct.
Black smoke should only appear briefly when you're giving it full throttle. You just have to experiment a bit.

Hi everyone,
I already replied to him privately, but just so no one misses my opinion as an Authal driver:
My box looks completely different (SMD construction), so I can't offer any advice here. Gruß Ulf

If you can't read the labels on the adjustment screws: from top to bottom: Pref, SW1, SW2, Ges, Max, T, Stg. Maybe someone knows what each one stands for.
I have also already emailed Authal myself, but they have so far stubbornly practiced the art of 'not responding.'

Since there's already a thread on this topic...
I managed to get a used Authal control unit. Apparently, this unit comes from an AFN model. I emailed Authal to inquire whether the unit could be installed in my 1Z, including referencing the number on the unit. Their response was that they could adjust the unit for the 1Z for 25 euros plus shipping, and that it could be installed.
Why does the control unit need to be adjusted? Is it due to the different mass airflow sensors (MAF) in the AFN and 1Z engines? The auxiliary control unit intercepts the signal to provide an "optimized" power boost.
Or is it complete nonsense since both are VP37 TDIs, and anyway, you only adjust the "fuel injection amount" using potentiometers? VW Golf III TDI Avenue, MKB 1Z, EZ96

Hi,
My (former) engine control unit used boost pressure as a "load reference" and did not have a provision for tapping into the mass airflow sensor (MAF) signal.
I cannot determine whether the alleged adjustments for 66 kW or 81 kW engines are simply a show, or a way to extract money.
It is certainly possible that the permissible range for adjusting the fuel-air mixture (while still meeting emissions standards) varies between engines and is used as a tuning parameter, making a specific adjustment beneficial. Gruß Ulf

Thank you, I will double-check everything again once I have the item in my possession (tomorrow). If I can't find the information I need in the accompanying documents, I will tentatively accept the offer. I think that even then, I will have gotten a very good box at a relatively low price overall. VW Golf III TDI Avenue, MKB 1Z, EZ96

Hello dieselcruiser.
I saw the photo of your package.
I once had a box that looked exactly the same in an Opel Omega 2.5 diesel.
(BMW TDS engine). I had Papmahl install the chip back then, but that was around the summer of 1997, so it's been quite a while.
He smoked like a chimney, but his performance was also outstanding. Drehmoment statt Drehzahl

Okay, here it is. A small, silver aluminum box. And it connects via the boost pressure!
There are definitely no visible adjustment screws on the device.
"What I don't quite understand is where to tap into the boost pressure. The instructions mention the intake manifold, but couldn't I also tap into it, for example, at the hose for the LDA (Lean Definition Adapter), since that hose already runs into the cabin in my case?"
Unfortunately, the cable connecting the pump to the device seems quite short, and it connects to the device via ball connectors. There are four wires: yellow, orange, red, and black. Additionally, there's another cable coming from the device, which is brown in color, and it appears to be used for turning the device on and off. At least, that's my interpretation, as the device came with a modified switch.
Can someone confirm if the installation would work like this?
Thank you. VW Golf III TDI Avenue, MKB 1Z, EZ96

Okay, I just went ahead and installed the box.
After a rather disappointing test, I will be returning box one. My old 10-cent item was definitely much more effective. The estimated performance with the Authal box should be just around 100 horsepower. VW Golf III TDI Avenue, MKB 1Z, EZ96

Hello friends!
...it's really a cool thing, such a box or .
A bunch of electronics with no practical use. The circuit board looks like it was soldered by grandma herself.
'How few brain cells does a person need to have to hang something like that in their car??? These people shouldn't be helped at all. Anyone who can't handle such technically sophisticated devices should contact the manufacturer or call the '11880' hotline. However, it seems that some people from this forum are driving around with manipulated signals. But sooner or later, even those people will realize that 'tuning boxes' are useless.'
Best regards, Sindbad.

How little brainpower does one need to write such posts?

...as an old saying goes??
 ...affected dogs bark!
@x world one: You haven't, by any chance, heard that it's legal to express your opinion freely, have you??? There's even a law about it, but never mind.
...just so you know: I don't like those 'tuning boxes' at all! They're all junk, without exception! And I'm happy to prevent any diesel driver from buying those 'pieces of junk.'
...I'm sure nobody will have a problem with me expressing my honest opinion about 'tuning boxes' (or whatever they may be called). If anyone does, please let me know, and I'm happy to be educated.
In the meantime, you might want to browse the German Civil Code (BGB) and review the Basic Law (GG) – that way, you'll avoid getting into trouble as often!
Best regards, Sindbad.
