Can someone perhaps help me?

I'm studying at a technical high school and I need to give a presentation in English about how a diesel engine works. I'm not looking for anything specific, but rather a general explanation of its function. I'm familiar with the topic myself, but my English is limited to everyday conversations and I don't have much technical vocabulary. It would be very helpful if someone could provide me with links to resources that explain this.

Thank you in advance!

I already had a website, but I wanted to have less work. Our teacher will probably check Google first, so I wanted to see if anyone had websites that don't show up directly on Google. But whatever, I'll just do the work myself and write the text. Thanks for the reply. I don't want to 'misuse' the forum for school anymore.

Hi,

Making it yourself is a good idea!

No matter what you copy, it can be found. It's enough to simply enter one or two sentences from the copied text into Google, or some distinctive passages, and you'll find the original.

I once managed to convince a student in this way.

Best regards,

Oh well, you can't reinvent the function of a diesel engine, not even in English.

@ Albrecht:

Sure, you can't exactly reinvent the wheel, but there's a difference between "learning terms in English" and "rephrasing them in your own words" versus simply "copying and pasting."

And I believe that the ability to "express oneself in English" is exactly what should be learned in that presentation.

Damn, I'm already starting to sound like my father icon_wink.gif it's probably because of my age.

Greetings.

Hi,

I agree with Martin. The purpose of an assignment is not to copy contributions from elsewhere, but to write something original. You can use sources, but you must cite them. Direct copies, on the other hand, must be marked as quotations.

If a student plagiarizes in this way (i.e., copy-pasting without proper citation or source attribution) in a thesis at our university, the consequence is expulsion.

Finding it is easier than you might think, especially in English texts. If there are suddenly two paragraphs of perfect English within 30 pages of more or less awkward English, someone will Google it.

Best regards,

Jan.

...and of course, when you create the text yourself, you first learn English and second, you learn about the subject you are writing about.

I can see what copy & paste leads to, especially with our apprentices. icon_cry.gif
