A friend of mine is planning to buy a used Golf TDI from a dealer. The car was manufactured in 1995. The odometer shows only 65,000 km, but the original odometer was reportedly defective and replaced. However, there are no records indicating the mileage at the time of the replacement. My question is whether the mileage might also be stored in the engine control unit, and whether it can be read out using VAG-COM.
Are there any other relevant parts where one can estimate the mileage (besides worn-out pedals and a worn steering wheel)?
The car is scheduled to be inspected tomorrow, so it would be appreciated if someone could respond today.
You're very welcome.
Greetings.
Jean.
A similar question was asked just a few weeks ago. No, it is not stored anywhere else.
When trying to estimate mileage, I always look at the headlight lenses and windshield. However, this is very inaccurate, with a margin of error of plus or minus 50,000 to 100,000 kilometers. "This naturally assumes that you have a comparable vehicle with a similar actual mileage."
Hello!!
I have a few more tips on where you can also look.
If the clutch has been replaced, there will definitely be traces of it.
Screws for the transmission or the connection between the engine and the transmission.

Great. But that doesn't really help much. I still don't know if the car has actually driven 65,000 km or 300,000 km. Similarly, even after 20,000 miles, something might have been done to the clutch.
