Hello everyone.
Let me introduce myself.
I'm from Mannheim and I work as an industrial mechanic at a tractor company.
My hobbies are cars, motorcycles, and computers.
Now, to my question:
I ordered a new mass airflow sensor just in case, as my car has already done 100,000 km, and I've read in many forums that the mass airflow sensors on TDI engines tend to fail at this mileage.
Is there anything I need to be aware of when I remove the old mass airflow sensor and install the new one ?
Thank you in advance for your responses.
Regards,
SVEAGLE
PS: You want to know what kind of car I drive ?
Okay.
Sharan TDI, 04/97, GL, 90 hp / 210 Nm, dark green, alloy wheels.
Engine code: AHU.
Full equipment.

Hmm, so, mine from AHF now has 171,000 km and is still working great.
The rubber seal on the HFM connector should not simply fall off and disappear...

After an agonizingly long delivery time, I finally received my replacement mass airflow sensor (MAF) 3 weeks ago. My tractor was quite weak, as I had experienced since purchasing it at the beginning of the year, and I simply replaced the MAF sensor based on a hunch. Wow! After the replacement, I felt like I was driving a completely different car.
During the disassembly, I removed the entire pipe, not just the mass airflow sensor (MAF) itself. That's why the replacement MAF sensor came from the dealership. All I needed was a Phillips screwdriver. So, I loosened two screws on the air filter, and one hose clamp on the flexible pipe leading to the turbocharger, and I had the part in my hand. Oh, and the intake manifold above it is just clipped together and easily comes apart, which made it easier to reach the screws. Then, I put a nylon stocking (from my ex-girlfriend X) over the flexible pipe to prevent any flies from getting into the turbocharger during the trip to the Audi mechanic. Disassembly took 5-10 minutes.
The new LMM was just as easy to install, simply everything in reverse order, plug the connectors back in, and the performance was there!
Good luck.
The prankster!

Sure, here's the translation:
"Just as a supplement:"
Faxe and Rainer described the HFM5 expansion.
SVEAGLE would still need the Pierburg component (since it's an AHU model), which is always integrated with the pipe.
Just make sure that SVEAGLE doesn't try to disassemble the Pierburg .

Hello!
Okay, so my AHU (Air Handling Unit) had the mass flow sensor (MFG) attached to the duct with Torx screws. It's always replaced along with the duct because the MFG is calibrated inside the duct before it's shipped.

Hi.
What do you mean by "with screws in the pipe"?
The LMM is always located inside the pipe .
Do you mean that it's a separate part that screws onto the pipe (i.e., detachable)? If so, then it's a BOSCH product.
My Pierburg is ONE PART.
Damn, no photo available.

Hello.
The LMM (likely referring to a Linear Motion Module) is a component that I completely remove.

I meant that, in both the AHU and my ACV, the mass flow meter (MFM) is attached to the pipe using Torx screws. There's a flange on the pipe section, and the MFM is inserted into this flange, which is sealed with an O-ring, and then secured with two screws.
Ah, so it's Bosch.

Okay, so the AHU was also available with Pierburg AND Bosch components!
Okay, so also different cable harnesses as well!
My colleague's G3 car also has an AHU engine, just like mine, and it also has a Pierburg component.

Thank you for letting me know about the plugs. I was just at the dealer, and they told me that Bosch no longer makes them for my Sharan. The alternative from Bosch has a wider connector, but Pierburg still makes them, with a €50 surcharge compared to the Bosch one.
No, thank you.
I cleaned the old one and reinstalled it.

What kind of dealer was that again?
If doctors ever become like car salesmen, I'll just treat my own wounds!
How is Pierburg supposed to manufacture Bosch mass airflow sensors?
The connectors are either the right size or the wrong size; the BOSCH connector simply has one fewer (or one more) contact.
And why are ALL laser modules only 80 EUR, unless someone specifically asks about them?
I recently connected someone from the Ruhr area with my VW Fuzzi because he was willing to pay 230 euros for the mass airflow sensor.
Okay, I'll check the LMM (likely referring to Lambda/Mass Airflow Meter) in the 4/97 AHU Sharan.
Greetings.

You're welcome, Dieselmartin.
The dealer showed me a Bosch mass airflow sensor, but the connector was much too wide and only had one row of contacts (mine has two rows and is narrower). Then he got one from Pierburg, and it was identical to the Bosch one. However, the price was much too high at 170 euros. He did lower the price by 20%, but it was still too expensive for me, as it costs 88 euros at VW. I went to Stahlgruber, and I've had good experiences with them in the past.

So, you still have the Pierburg, right?
I also have a two-row connector, and I definitely have a Pierburg part.
Why don't you go to VW and buy it from them for 80 euros?
Do you have any pictures of your current LLM?

Here's a picture of a genuine, old Pierburg component:
http://www.luxus-wg.de/~martin/auto_bilder/LMM_pierburg.jpg
The blue color on the arrow and the VW logo was me (just playing around ).
You can even identify the part number, which is 074 906 461.
And that one definitely costs 70 EUR plus the "MaerchenSteuer" in exchange.

Okay, great. The guys at the Audi Center in Essen are adding another 10% discount on top of the existing 75 EUR EVK (extended warranty) for the Bosch part.
