Hi Rainer,

Have you ever considered doing more public advertising? I think license plate holders with "www.dieselschrauber.de" or something similar could find a market in the forum. It's less about making money and more about further increasing brand awareness. I'd like to attach something to my car.

Please provide the German text you would like me to translate.
Best regards, Marco

Hi,

Basically, it's a great idea, and I would probably work on something like that myself. However, I have one problem with it:

I don't want the car to immediately look like a diesel. TDI models are technically much more interesting than any ordinary Ibiza, and Berlin is not entirely immune to that fact for various reasons. A sign like that would be more misleading, because who knows how to identify a TDI engine by looking at the openings for the coolant lines on a car in Ibiza?

I would therefore say: "I'm unsure."

Best regards,

Jan.

Hi Jan,

Just tell me, did you also remove the TDI badge from the tailgate? icon_lol.gif

Hi Ulf,

Just two weeks ago, when I installed the turn signal. I actually had it for almost two years, but it wasn't really fun to use here on the farm, so I got rid of it when I was working on my parents' driveway.

Well, there's a TDI lying around on the desk now, let's see what I can do with it...

Hmm... what connects Saarland and Berlin? Well, they're both located near borders in some way.

Do you really think those guys, who are probably trying to steal something, would be fooled by a missing sign...? I think most of the property owners in Berlin are acting on someone else's orders... Unfortunately, it's probably very difficult to protect yourself against them. For my part, I hope my Golf (which is almost two years old) is too old to be stolen.

...but I also operate anonymously from the factory itself...

Good idea about the license plate holders... but I have some really great, standard black ones, plain without any printing. The Holland Bonus...!

Hi,

I already understand about the ordering process; there's no chance of getting through. But they probably won't want a car that's already 2 1/2 years old, especially since the next model has been available for over 2 years.

I'm thinking more about petty criminals who might just steal a car on a whim, without giving it much thought. They certainly wouldn't know how to remove that specific part, and many probably wouldn't even realize that the 6K GP01 exists with that engine. There aren't many of them around – I've only seen two or three other TDI models in the past two and a half years. Therefore, the risk is generally lower than, for example, with golf.

Best regards,

Jan.

I had a similar discussion some time ago. Unfortunately, at that time, the unanimous opinion was: 'We don't want to.'

I would buy some and also install them. How about maybe some subtle stickers as well?

Hmm, isn't that the same "outing" problem?

However, that (missing) TDI badge, which was already gone when I bought the car, only helps complete idiots. You can tell at a glance just by looking at the exhaust if it's a TDI. I'm not aware of any gasoline exhaust systems where the tailpipes point downwards.

It depends on how they are made. A subtle white line drawing with lettering is definitely less noticeable than...

Hi,

If my memory serves me correctly, my 60 horsepower gasoline-powered Polo (engine code AEX) had a beautifully hidden exhaust system behind the rear bumpers, with the tailpipe pointing downwards.

And the 1.8T engine in my parents' Passat, again based on my memory, also has downward-facing dual exhaust pipes.

By the way, the Ibi only has one exhaust pipe for the TDI engine, unlike VW which has two.

It doesn't matter what type of exhaust system is installed or will be installed. For someone in the know, just a glance at the tachometer, if one is present, is enough to immediately identify a diesel engine.
How many people with an optical fetish are there in those 'boah eye' forums, the ones that are all about going deeper, darker, wider, and faster, where people are always tweaking things and installing all sorts of exhaust systems, to the point where you can't even comment on the end pipe anymore?

Hi,

A single glance at the front bumpers is enough to reveal whether a car is a TDI model.

That's not what I'm talking about, though. What bothers me more are the people who don't even go that far, but who are lured into buying a car with a "TDI" or "Diesel" engine, a car they wouldn't even have looked at closely otherwise.

Best regards,

Jan.

Hi Jörg,

Okay, here's the translation:

"That's right - but SDIs have the same engine speed as TDIs icon_twisted.gif"

I highly doubt that SDIs are generally as attractive to thieves as TDIs. Distinguishing a parked TDI from an SDI can often be nearly impossible – unless you try to identify the engine code.

Hi Ulf,

Now, if you add a speedometer with a 260 reading to the rev counter, you'll have found a modern TDI with more than 110 horsepower.
