Hello.

I'm having a problem with a Golf IV with an AUS engine:

After giving it icon_mad.gif gas, you wait 0.5-1 seconds for the engine to react, and then, in my opinion, it increases its RPM a bit too slowly. So, based on my feeling, you're probably traveling at around 40-50 horsepower ('icon_mad.gif').
Otherwise, it runs fine, with an A1 rating and a top speed of up to 210 km/h according to the speedometer. The idle is also perfect, very stable and smooth.
Error memory is clear, throttle body is clean and not sticking.
When you increase the speed while it's stationary, the throttle valve opens relatively slowly, but without sticking.

I've also heard that this issue occurs more frequently with the 1.6 16V engine, and that the dealership often replaces the engine control unit (ECU).

Can someone confirm this?
"If so, which ECUs were faulty, and what is the replacement? Perhaps someone has the corresponding part numbers."
What is the goodwill/discount offered for a vehicle manufactured in 2001?

I am grateful for any help.
Voss.

Okay, so the 1.6 16V isn't the quickest when it comes to responsiveness. We had two Golf IVs at work with this engine, and both exhibited this phenomenon. However, both of them ran quite well. But, I consider this engine to be a complete design flaw. It's unreliable, makes terrible noises, and consumes fuel in a perverse way.

Best regards, WarLord.

Have you checked the ignition timing?

Today, I had a problem with the ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), and the engine performance was low after a timing belt replacement. I adjusted the ignition timing, and suddenly the 90 horsepower was back! It was responsive and revved freely.

Regards,

Manuel.

Hello.

Thank you for your interest.

I know that the 1.6 isn't the fastest, but it also has very poor responsiveness compared to another 1.6 (that my friend has). However, it's about 10 km/h faster in terms of top speed.
I also carefully checked the camshaft timing, and it was okay.

And the fact that it still takes around 0.5 seconds for the engine to rev up, even when stationary, can't be normal.

voss

I'm not sure if the engine still has a cable connected to the accelerator pedal. If it does, please adjust it.

If Egas: Please check the plausibility to ensure it's running at 100% when at full throttle, and not just 90% or something like that...

Hello Julian,

He has an electronic throttle.

Quote:

Please check to make sure it's running at 100% when at full throttle, and not just 90% or something like that.

How can I check this? Could you perhaps tell me which measurement block it's displayed in?
So far, I haven't found this information.

Regards,
voss

I don't know the exact values by heart. Just read the measurement values one by one. Is there a percentage display? If there's no gas, it should show 0%, and if it's full throttle, it should show 100%.

Hello Julian,

I thought the same thing, and I couldn't find anything.
Do you have the ability to check this? That would be helpful to me.

Could someone possibly check if there's a repair instruction (or something like that) available from VW?
gives?

Regards,
voss
