Whenever my Golf car is on reserve overnight, I have to play the organ for a minute in the morning to get it started.
If the tank is half full, it's okay.
likely either air is being drawn in somewhere on the fuel lines, the diesel filter (temperature-controlled valve in the return, seals), or the crankshaft seal of the fuel pump.
When the tank is almost empty, the fuel column in the line naturally 'sucks' more... Also, check the fuel lines (rubber hoses between the injectors) too.

I have already checked the return hoses, and I have replaced the diesel filter.
I was planning to upgrade the pump to 12mm anyway, and the ring will be replaced anyway.
