GRA Connector Not Compatible: Troubleshooting & Fixes

Hi,

habe beim Verwerter für meinen Passat TDI 1Z Bj. 96 einen Blinkerhebel mit GRA gekauft, der auch für diese Modelljahr passen soll. Nach dem Einbau mußte ich nun aber leider feststellen, daß der Stecker nicht in die freiliegende Buchse des Kabelbaums paßt. Wie kann das sein? Bei Vergleich der Kabelfarben stellt ich fest, daß drei identisch sind, aber eine abweichend. Was nun? Auf gut Glück miteinander verbinden, per Kabelverbinder, oder geht dabei was hops? Am besten wären ja wohl Stromlaufpläne, aber die gibt´s dann ja nur wieder bei VW. Kann mit jemand helfen? Danke!

VW no longer offers wiring diagrams for your model. However, they might still be found in some dusty old binders.

I have a wiring diagram for my Golf 3 with the AHU engine. Since the 1Z and AHU engines were identical, they used the same control units. Therefore, the GRA (glow relay) connections on the control unit are at least the same. However, the wiring to those connections will be different. But with that, you should be able to measure the wires yourself. The control unit is located in the water reservoir, in front of the windshield, under the wipers.

Hello everyone.

I had a similar problem with my Passat (manufactured in late 1997). Neither the connectors nor the wire colors matched. I was told that some Passats have an A4 wiring harness.

After I obtained the A4 schematics, at least I could figure out the cable colors; however, the connectors couldn't be used and were replaced with quick connectors instead.
