Hi everyone,

There are various web-based VAG-COM providers that work in conjunction with a diagnostic adapter, and their prices can vary considerably.

Since I'm slowly considering buying one of these (I don't have the time right now to solder the adapter myself), I'd like to ask the group about their experiences, and whether anyone can recommend specific providers or has any advice.

Quality and reliability are much more important to me than saving a few euros... In particular, I want to buy *legitimate* software, because charging money for a pirated copy is quite criminal on the part of the seller.

On all the websites I've checked, (if there was any information at all), it only mentioned that Linux versions would be available "someday." Does anyone know more about this?

Best regards,

Jan, who only uses Windows in emergencies.

HalJan,

I got my adapter, including the software, from Uwe Ross (www.ross-tech.com). Since he's the programmer, you can expect a certain level of professionalism.
Tschüss

Hello Jan,

VAG-Com starts with WINE, but I haven't been able to test whether the communication is actually working yet.

Best regards, Rainer.

Edit: VCDS is, of course, available here: http://shop.dieselschrauber.de/

Both sound good icon_wink.gif.

The demo version of VAG-COM runs very well in VMware, even though it doesn't make much sense to use it without a cable connected.

The providers differentiate between three versions:

- Base (no L, no double K-line)
- with L-line connection.
- with L-profile and 2xK.

If I understand correctly, "L-Line" refers to older models, while "two Ks" indicates the newest Audi models.

For my Ibiza 11/01, the standard [tire size/specifications] should be sufficient... or would you recommend something else?

If I ever end up with a car that has two K-lines, it should definitely be possible to make it switchable manually (since the part simply has everything duplicated), so the double price for the adapter alone is, in my opinion, pointless.

What do you think? What would you choose, or what do you have?

Best regards,

Jan.

They've now reached a price of 89 euros for this version...

With that, you could do everything you needed, right?

Best regards,

Jan.

Hi again,
However, for 89 euros, it's only the demo version, which allows you to 'only' read and delete error codes, but you can't make any changes. It's usually sufficient for most cases.
The only thing I've done with the 'full version' so far is enable the 'autolock' feature (automatic central locking at speeds above 15 km/h).

*grins* That's exactly what I'm planning to do, + Reading various error messages and measurement values.

My question was more about the hardware, which is less capable compared to the higher-end versions (no "L" model, no "2"). K-Line), but it seems like you don't need that for a "normal" car.

I just want to try it out first, and avoid making a costly mistake with the hardware, since the software is much less problematic.

Best regards,

Jan.
