Airbag Warning Light On? Deactivate Airbags?

If, for example, a side airbag has a fault and the warning light is illuminated, are all airbags deactivated?
What happens if an airbag has been deployed? Are the other airbags still functional?
I mean something like that, where you can continue using the system even if one component fails, while the others still work.
