Turbo Problems: Low Boost on Tuned Audi 1.8T?

My 1Z engine, according to my tuning company, has 110 horsepower. However, it produces some smoke at all engine speeds under full load, and quite a lot at high RPMs. The tuner mentioned beforehand that this was to be expected with this engine. I somehow feel that the boost pressure is too low. I have an adapter and VAGCOM, but unfortunately, I don't have a laptop that my finicky 1Z of the first generation will work with. Besides, only group 0 can be read, and that's at a measly 0.4 measurement values per second.
According to a technical article with specified values, the standard 1Z engine has a turbocharger boost pressure of 0.85 bar. In my opinion, the turbocharger boost pressure should now be at the AFN level, which, according to the article, is 0.95 bar.

Am I right in my assumption?

According to my tuner, the second generation of the 1Z engine can be tuned to produce 116 horsepower.
Differences in the engines: different turbocharger, mass airflow sensor instead of volume airflow sensor, ESP with a different sensor for fuel injection quantity.
But what causes the difference? Is it the turbocharger? Does that mean mine is already operating at its limit, and is that why the engine is producing excessive soot?
