Ich habs getan: Ich hab meinen Passat verkauft. (mit einem weinenden und einem lachendem Auge... icon_wink.gif )

Okay, I need something new now. I'm thinking of getting a Volkswagen Golf IV Variant (estate/wagon). The price range I'm looking at is roughly between 10,000 and 12,000 Euros.

Which engine would you recommend to me?

I found one that I really like. It has 115 horsepower. It seems to be the AJM engine! What's its reliability like? I plan to drive about 30,000-40,000 kilometers per year.

The most common engine you'll find is the 66 kW TDI (ALH!?). It's a fairly basic and reliable engine, right? (With ASV injectors, I could have gotten 110 horsepower.)

I would appreciate it if you could share your thoughts on this.

Your doc.

Most commonly, you'll find the 66 kW TDI (ALH!?)
. That's still a fairly basic engine, isn't it? (With ASV injectors, I would have had 110 hp)}.
The AJM, being a representative of the first generation of PD patients, might carry certain childhood illnesses that have not yet manifested.

Therefore, I would personally choose the ALH model, which represents the last generation of VP vehicles, for its greater sense of reliability.
With turbo tuning and a shorter gear ratio (?), it's probably just as quick in everyday driving as the AJM.

If it's supposed to be a PD (presumably referring to a type of vehicle or device), I would recommend newer generations like the ATD, AXR, or ASZ.

Perhaps you can negotiate the price of a car that's not very well-equipped down so much that it falls within your budget.

Hi Doc!

Da ist wohl Nachwuchs im Anmarsch? icon_lol.gif

I agree with Ulf; you've sometimes heard not-so-great things about AJM engines (the worst seems to be damaged connecting rod bearings with higher mileage). Overall, it's not a bad engine, but in terms of reliability, you'll probably be better off with a VP engine.
IMHO, the ALH engine is a 90hp version with VTG (Variable Turbine Geometry) and therefore has enough reserves for reliable tuning.

Good luck with your decision.

Regards,

P.S. By the way, we know each other from vocational school in Bayreuth!

Bitte gib mir den deutschen Text, den du übersetzt haben möchtest.
93,000 km

Okay, take a close look – make sure the timing belt hasn't reached its replacement interval of 90,000 km and hasn't been changed yet...
Otherwise: Welcome to the high-pressure faction... icon_wink.gif

For my car (ATD engine), the timing belt needs to be replaced every 90,000 km. Is there anything different for the Volkswagen Golf?

'I specifically asked about the timing belt replacement today. They told me it should be done at 120,000 km. If there's a problem, it's actually their fault. Besides, I bought the car with 93,000 km on it, so the timing belt should have been replaced 3,000 km ago. This means the potential defect was likely already present when I purchased the car...'

Here's something else I found:

http://www.motor-talk.de/t337257/f22/s/thread.html

http://www.autobild.de/forum/showthread.php?threadid=9906

I'm sorry, but I can't translate that because it only contains question marks. Please provide some actual text for me to translate.

How do I find out the actual interval? Should I just email Volkswagen and ask? That way, I would have it in writing. Does anyone have an email address for them?

Wait and check your new service booklet; it's best to do this before the handover icon_smile.gif.

Congratulations and all the best, with many safe miles in your new car!

Hi Doc,

The ATD definitely has 90,000 km on it!

Even the AXR engine, which has a better crankshaft and PD elements designed to reduce stress on the crankshaft, has a service life of 90,000 km.

Ausserdem gibt es das 120tkm Intervall erst ab dem MJ 04 ... da ist deiner weit weg von. icon_wink.gif

Sorry to hear about your 1Z (aww), but you'll still have fun with the ATD.

hello doctor,

Welcome to the club...

It's a shame about the engine. I'm still very attached to the car, so I only had the garage side replaced, and now my dad is driving it. Even though I sometimes curse the car with its flaws, I probably wouldn't ever truly get rid of it...

I agree with Bertil. The ATD should have 90,000 km on it. If you don't want to end up with problems, the timing belt has probably been changed. Ask about it and check the service record; otherwise, get it replaced! You'll still have fun driving the car...

Habe gerade meinen Neuen abgeholt. Ist schon ein tolles Auto. Fährt sich auch leicht anders als mein guter alter 1Z... icon_wink.gif
You were right: the timing belt was due for replacement at 90,000 km. It was also replaced during the major service in June. So it was just a mistake by the (very nice) salesperson. I also had a new mass airflow sensor (MAF sensor) installed at the same time. I've heard they sometimes cause problems *lol*.

Okay, have fun with the ATD. With a payload of 90 tons, it's definitely something you can work with.

Danke für eure Glückwünsche! icon_biggrin.gif

Auf ins Abenteuer Pumpe Düse... *g* Wenigstens kommt man beim IVer gut an die VTG-Verstellung ran. icon_cool.gif

BTW: The ATD still doesn't have a monitored EGR system, right? There's still a risk that a small piece of metal could get lodged somewhere.
