Hello everyone,
I urgently need some input from people who are familiar with Passat models from the year 2000/2001.
'You probably know more about cars than I do. Due to family expansion, I'm looking to sell my current Golf III...'
Variant Tdi (90PS). Bj. 98 auf einen Passat Baujahr 00 besser 01 umsatteln. Sure, here's the translation:
'In this process,...'
I've currently been focusing on the 2.5 TDI V6 engine (150 hp) because...
Here are some points regarding the robustness, smoothness, torque, and durability of a 6-cylinder engine.
managed to. Somehow, you also want to make good progress even when it's loaded .
Now, here are my questions, and I would be very happy to receive brief answers to them.
1. V6 2.5 vs. 131HP-PD? Am I mistaken about the advantages of the V6 mentioned above, and is it...?
Is it still worth considering another alternative?
2. What should I pay particular attention to when looking at a V6 2.5 engine? Are there any specific engine codes I should be aware of?
Specific model year (2002?), specific transmission? Possibly the same recommendation.
for the 131 hp PD variant?
What major expenses should I anticipate when owning a Passat?
If it has around 80,000 kilometers (approximately 50,000 miles) on it, then things like the timing belt, brakes, etc., will likely need to be replaced soon.
'It depends on a lot of factors, including driving style, so it's a very difficult question to answer definitively.'
I really hope that some comments from you will help me in making my decision.
which, however, is expected to be more important for several years, safer, and better trained.

Hello,
The 1.9 TDI engine with 96 kW / 130 PS has, incidentally, been tested for over 150,000 km in real-world driving conditions as of July 30th.

Hi,
If you scroll back through this forum, you'll find a lot of stories about problems related to the V6 engine.
I don't know to what extent individual ICD codes are more severely affected, and therefore (especially) should be avoided, based on the information available -> I would need to read more about it myself .
Sure, the 1.9 models also cause problems, but the "problem rate" seems to me (at least in this forum) to be at least as high with the V6 engines. Please, statisticians or V6 specialists, feel free to correct me.
In addition to that, the V6 engine likely has a higher fuel consumption – as a starting point, compare the figures listed in the catalogs. Gruß Ulf

...and not to mention the higher insurance premiums, etc.
The V6 engines, as you can read about here, also have problems with worn camshafts and other issues in newer models, which manifest as a loss of power.
'The 96 kW version works well too!' (said a 3BG Variant driver, model year 2001, with a 96 kW PD engine).

Hello,
I need to defend my old V6 (AFB) engines. The top speed is okay (again, around 230-240 km/h). Fuel consumption on a normal, fast country road is 6-7.5 liters (with air conditioning). Let's not even talk about city driving (thanks to VW's Tiptronic, but that's a must!).
When purchasing, I would have a new mass airflow sensor installed, have the crankcase pressure checked, and make sure it's not leaking, otherwise you could end up spending another 1000 EUR ! I would also have the timing belt replaced (which costs about 800-1000 EUR for the V6) . Otherwise, it's in good condition, but it's a bit noisy when it's cold.
Dann halt noch die VW/(Passat) üblichen Dinge wie Vorderachse Klappert (ca. 800EUR,...,...,...,...,. VW (hold).
You can have good luck or bad luck... with the V6 and with the PD.

I think the 130 hp PD version is the better choice of the two.
"Because the smaller one clearly has better performance than the larger one. It consumes about 2 liters less per 100 km and is also significantly lighter."
V6 engines often have oil leaks, which can be expensive to repair.
Even without a chip tuning module, I believe the 1.9 TDI with 130 hp can offer performance comparable to the V6 TDI.
And if it's supposed to be a V6 TDI, then please get the one with 180 hp. Everything else is disappointing. And what I've noticed is that the larger V6 isn't as often in the workshop due to poor performance as the 150 hp models. B.Eng (FH) u. KFZ Meister

I also want to chime in.
I have an A4 V6. The 130 horsepower version sounds quite different, but it still has good acceleration. I rarely drive above 160 km/h, so next time I'll probably opt for a 4-cylinder engine.
If you're considering a V6 engine, then only opt for the AKN or the 165 or 180 horsepower versions. The 150 horsepower AFB engine had too many mechanical issues that could become very expensive to fix.
Replacing the timing belt at 120,000 km can be quite expensive. The oil leak was brought under control starting in the year 2000.
The best thing to do is to test drive both and then decide.
Good luck, Rainer.

First of all, thank you very much for your answers .
A few things are starting to become clearer to me.
I read the test in the latest issue of 'Auto Straßenverkehr' magazine.
I also got it, but I have to say that I'm paying attention to the comments from...
Experts would value practical experience more than a test report.
Both vehicles (96 kW and 110 kW) are covered by the insurance (liability and comprehensive).
nahezu gleichwertig (50 Euro Unterschied). Taxes, of course.
A little more, okay.
There are also threads here discussing the throttle response of the 96kw engine.
which I have also already read. Personally, I had expected...
He was eyeing a Tiptronic, but even a friendly VW workshop...
'The expert advised me against it, saying something like, '...they seem to have issues with the automatic transmission somehow.'
'not invented here'... That's why my focus is on the 6-speed manual transmission.
What also interests me is the suspension system. My current car...
is indeed hard to beat in terms of cornering stability The new one should be in this
Discipline shouldn't be like that. The question is whether the standard suspension is too stiff.
genug ist oder ich besser auf das Werks-Sportfahrwerk achten sollte. It's going.
not necessarily deeper, but rather tighter. However, there were times when...
The days of simply bolting a suspension kit onto a car are over. I want, if possible, to...
original here is a good suspension
Best regards,
Ronny.

ok! so you are on the right track!
If the Passat remains the focus, perhaps someone switched from a Passat to a 3BG Variant about 1.5 years ago.
The steering is precise and easy to handle. The standard suspension doesn't cause any problems, but it could be firmer considering all the comfort it offers. So, the optional sport suspension would certainly be a better choice for you. However, even the standard suspension is miles better than the one in the Golf. In your situation, I would recommend taking a test drive with the standard suspension first and then deciding. Perhaps 16 or 17-inch wheels would also make a difference.
Here's what you should pay attention to: make sure the steering tie rods of the front axle are in good condition, and possibly insist that they be replaced. VW still has major quality problems with the rubber bushings. If they are not in good condition and you have to have them replaced, you can quickly end up spending 800-1000 euros.

Does this generally apply to all Passats with a certain mileage, or can an improvement be expected from a specific production week onwards? (e.g., more robust mass airflow sensors are supposedly included from week 45 of 2001).
Best regards, Ronny.

'The 3B models generally had this issue. Apparently, it was supposedly fixed in the 3BG model. From my own experience, I can say that nothing has been fixed. At best, it has been slightly improved. I also experienced the infamous 'knocking' sound last autumn. I simply inquired about it, and surprisingly, they offered a goodwill gesture... but only for the parts. That should say it all. I still didn't have it fixed at VW. I got the control arms from egedöns in bulk, and other parts were much cheaper than the labor costs at the VW dealership... And we won't even talk about the messed-up Saturdays.'

Hello again,
Regarding the Tipronik: I can't really say anything bad about the Tip 5. The only thing is that the fuel consumption is a bit high in city traffic. But the driving comfort is okay.
Above all, it's a lot of fun when overtaking; you simply press the accelerator, and you're already two gears lower (you don't even need to use the 'kick down'). But I think the sixth gear <- -> and the automatic transmission are a matter of personal preference.

Hi Ronny,
I would strongly base the decision to buy a V6 engine on the driver's typical usage patterns.
Lots of highway, country roads -> definitely a V6 engine.
More city driving than highway driving -> 4-cylinder engine.
In my opinion, the V6 engine really becomes worthwhile if you plan to drive at high speeds on the highway, meaning speeds of 200 km/h or higher, up to its maximum speed.
Regarding taxes, I can say that I just had to pay 386 euros to the tax office, so it's definitely something to consider whether it's really worth it to get a V6.
I consider the 6-speed manual transmission to be the right choice in terms of fuel consumption, regardless of whether it's a V6 or not. When it comes to the engine, make sure you choose either the AKN engine or one of the newer models.

Hello Bertil,
This brings me to a general question.
How do V6 engines with a 6-speed manual transmission perform compared to 4-cylinder engines when towing a trailer?
