Hello!
I'm currently in the process of installing a lambda sensor, an oil temperature gauge, and a pressure gauge.
Regarding the oil pressure, I'm still hoping to find an oil pressure sensor that I can install instead of the 0.3 bar warning contact. Maybe someone here knows someone...?
(Thread M10x1, 12mm long, closing pressure 0.3 bar)
But now, let's get to the main topic.
I've already looked at all the posts related to the topic of "where to mount the oil temperature sensor." But I'm missing something.
IMO, the sensor should be installed after the oil/water heat exchanger, because the lubricating oil has that specific temperature . Furthermore, when the oil is cold and the water is warm, the heat exchanger warms up the oil.
I was thinking we could install the sensor in the supply line of the turbocharger. It might also be sufficient to attach it to the heatsink using thermally conductive adhesive and add some insulation.
What do the experts say about this? 1993 Audi 80 B4 1Z

Hello,
I wouldn't touch the supply line of the charger, I think. It's not a very thick piece to begin with. If a temperature sensor is then placed in the line, it might not be beneficial for the oil supply. When applying it, there's a risk that the result will be distorted by the motor's heat or the heat of the charger (which gets incredibly hot). As an idea, I thought about the oil drain plug. You could drill a hole in the center and insert the temperature sensor there. You don't have to adjust that screw very often, and in my opinion, the result is most likely to reflect the truth.

However, I believe that measuring before the oil-to-water heat exchanger is incorrect for the reasons mentioned above.
The heat from the loader isn't an issue; the oil pipe starts on the left side, and the loader is on the right. And I would thermally insulate the area around the sensor on the outside. 1993 Audi 80 B4 1Z

Well, it really depends on how accurate the measured values need to be. And whether the thermometer will show 80 degrees after 30 or 35 minutes of driving – that extra effort wouldn't be worth it to me personally. For example, Jan also checks the temperature in the tub using the dipstick and is quite satisfied with the results.

I don't think it's that much extra effort.

Regarding this, my concern is that the information about maximum oil temperatures always refers to measurements taken in the oil pan. This makes sense to me because the oil is likely the warmest there. I would always take measurements where the oil is warmest to prevent the oil from overheating. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the oil "breaks down" when it gets too hot.
Greetings.

I share that concern, because the oil coming from the bearing housings and the turbocharger return line is the hottest.
It all depends on preventing overheating, because that's when the oil loses its properties or carbonizes. The result is completely distorted after the oil cooler.
How about the microcontroller enthusiasts? The WIV sensor already provides oil level and oil temperature readings. What's the point of adding another sensor?

I just installed the last two additional gauges, each as a separate unit, into my vehicle over the past two days. In the future, a boost pressure gauge will replace the voltmeter.
The oil temperature sensor screws into the back of the engine where the blind plug normally goes. You can get oil pressure readings from a dual-sensor unit that has a 0.3 bar warning contact and a sensor connection.
I think I'll take some pictures. Tomorrow or the day after tomorrow MfG faz

That's something already...

Are you referring to the additional instruments from the T89?

Where is this blind plug? I've never heard of that before.

Where can I find this oil pressure sensor at the lowest price? It costs about 50 euros, right?
Edit:
In another forum, you posted the part number 049 919 563 B for the oil temperature sensor. Do you have the same issue with the oil pressure sensor?
I'm already in the process of building the LDA (2x MPX4250AP + OP-amp circuit).

Why 2x? To get rid of the external formatting so you don't have to compare things as painstakingly as I do?
There are also...DP sensors, which are designed to measure relative pressure (but I only realized this after mine was already finished, so I've only included it as a note in my description).

Yes, I'm aware of that. However, I don't get any suction with a DP (presumably a specific type of device). Also, I got the two APs for 40 euros, while a DP would have cost me 28 euros. The 12 euros are no longer a problem. 1993 Audi 80 B4 1Z

The single-gauge version had the T89, and the B4 had it until 1992. I have the individual gauges from an S2 Coupe installed. To match my AI in an S2 style.
The drain plug is located on the engine, at the rear, on the clutch side, right in front of the battery compartment. You can remove it with an Allen key. I got this information from Stiffler on the Meckis forum. It should fit, as oil also came out when I removed the blind plug.
The oil pressure sensor has the part number 035 919 561. It's quite expensive, I think that 50€ might not be enough for VAG parts. I got mine cheaply and new from eBay.
I'm going to install an LDA (Linear Displacement Analyzer) from Gerd (from the Mecki forum). It's a VDO instrument with a 52mm diameter, so it should be a straightforward replacement for the original VDO voltmeter. Plus, it has the S-Line look. You could take a look at the thread about LDA in the Turbo forum.
Additional instrument S2, single version.

Good morning!
@ dieter and Gremlin
I missed your answers .
Apparently, I've fallen into a huge misunderstanding. I always thought that the oil shouldn't get too hot because otherwise the oil film on the bearings and cylinder walls would break down.
What is the maximum permissible temperature for engine oil?
From this perspective, it probably makes the most sense for me to tamper with the drain plug or the dipstick.
@ faz
Thank you for the response!
Does your oil temperature gauge display reasonable values?
How does the oil pressure regulator fit? In addition to the 0.3 bar warning sensor, the vacuum pump is located there, and as far as I know, the combination sensors with the warning contact are quite large.

Hello Wolfi,
You're right, the oil pressure sensor is too large to simply replace the 0.3 bar sensor with it.

Hi,
Quote: | | How hot can engine oil actually get?? |
According to VW, 130°C, measured in the oil pan. I don't know what the oil manufacturers say, but it probably depends on the quality of the oil.
"I've never had temperatures above 120°C, although the cooling system in my AFN engine probably has to work harder than in a Golf."
Quote: | | How does the oil pressure regulator fit? |
I have a piece of hydraulic hose with a T-connector, where the pressure sensor and switch are located. I built this setup for my old air-cooled engine because the threads were recessed deep within the engine casing. Now, it fits well on the AFN engine as well. It's screwed into the oil filter flange. However, the entire assembly must be very securely mounted, as the oil pressure sensor is quite heavy and can also cause the 2mm steel to vibrate over time.
Greetings.

Hi,
With my setup (a self-built PT100 sensor attached to the probe), I'm getting readings of around 90...100 degrees Celsius, depending on the load. At full load, it goes significantly higher:
The temperature inside the car, while driving on the highway with a caravan at approximately 95-100 km/h, reaches 117-120 degrees, depending on whether it's going uphill or not.
The maximum speed (indicated by the speedometer at 210 km/h) causes the temperature to rise to 130 degrees over several minutes.
However, the Ibiza is quite narrow in the front and has a lot of obstructions.
Best regards,
