KGE: How much oil leakage is normal?

Hello everyone!

A4 AFN, year of manufacture 1996, 262,000 km.

'I once disconnected the hose that runs from under the plastic cover at the top of the engine to the turbocharger. That must be the crankcase ventilation hose, right? The hose is just clipped in place, and there's a small oil puddle in the air intake hose where it was connected.' It's good when the loader buckets are always lubricated and don't start to rust icon_eek.gif.

I then started the engine and inserted the hose into a jar with a paper towel inside. To my great surprise, it barely blew out of the hose, and no oil came out either. However, when I open the oil filler cap (with the engine cold), it blows out like a hairdryer! How can that be?

Regarding the oil from the KGE (likely referring to a specific engine component): How do you think the intercooler looks like then??? I probably should flush it out, or what do you think?

Hose from the engine to the charger...
The crankcase ventilation system runs from the crankcase to the intake manifold, located between the air filter and the turbocharger. But actually, not to the loader itself, but in front of the loader.
It's normal for it to contain some sediment. Excess oil sludge in the engine oil is usually entrained by the airflow and directed to the combustion chamber.
Actually, air leaks out of the crankcase when you accelerate. That's probably air that's missing during the compression stroke, so it's whistling past the piston. As I said, I think. 'With mine, there's definitely a lot of air getting in.'
In my opinion, it's not entirely normal for air to be escaping from the top. Is the air leaking past the valve stem seal?

Not quite. "Compression" also occurs in the crankcase due to the movement of the pistons.

"I don't think it's entirely normal for air to be escaping from the top. Is the air bypassing the valve stem seal?"

It's normal for an air-oil mixture to come out.
However, it's also true that if a faulty engine is making excessive "noise," then something is likely leaking.

Really? Two pistons up and two down. It's not compressing, is it? It's just circulating air inside the crankcase.

But speaking of oil leaks:
I've had a new water pump installed (for an AAZ engine) since the day before yesterday.
Today I noticed a leak in one of the intercooler pipes. The pipe is already leaking there, and the area around it in the engine compartment is covered in oil. I haven't had any oil consumption before, but I did increase the boost pressure previously. Is it normal for it to leak so quickly? I probably drove about 50 kilometers.

I also have mucus everywhere, but as long as it's not squirting, I always say icon_biggrin.gif.

Eventually, the turbocharger is bound to fail.

hmm...
Could it be that air is only escaping from the oil filler neck when the KGE (Klimaanlage, Gebläse, Einspritzung - air conditioning, blower, injection) is activated?
Pull that off and then open the cuff.

There is definitely overpressure after the turbocharger. It can then pass through the crankshaft bearing housing and up from there until it comes out at the oil filler neck, if you open it, right?

Hi,
If someone posts a picture showing me where I need to disconnect the hose from the central heating system, I'll try disconnecting it tomorrow and see if that makes any difference to the airflow coming out of the hairdryer nozzle.

Um... sorry.
I must have misunderstood something.
If the KGE (Kurbelgehäuseentlüftung - crankcase ventilation) is located BEFORE the turbocharger in the intake path, then there will naturally be no pressure buildup, and therefore nothing should be escaping through the oil filler neck from that area.

If only someone knew why it's making that noise...
