Hi.
I want to consistently train my dog to stop making those noises.
"When I press the clutch pedal, I hear a squeaking sound. But it doesn't always happen - I think it's more likely or louder when it's warmer."
"Does anyone recognize this? Can I do anything about it from the outside, or does the transmission need to be removed?"
Now that the steering noise is gone, the clutch is becoming increasingly annoying .
You're welcome.

Hi,
I have no idea how it works with a Golf, but in my van, it also makes a creaking sound, and it's coming from the pedal or the return spring of the pedal. Maybe test it first, before removing the transmission .
Greetings.

Is it the clutch itself that's making the noise, or the clutch pedal mechanism? 1993 Audi 80 B4 1Z

Okay, I would say that the noise is coming from the engine compartment.
When you press the pedal, it makes that typical creaking sound associated with breaking free – and when you release it, it makes the same noise.
I think it might be something like a seized or stuck pull-out bearing.
I probably need to take a closer look at the 02A clutch – I'm only familiar with the ones used with the 020 transmissions, which have a through-going release shaft.

"Our Ibiza also used to make a squeaking noise with the clutch, but it turned out to be the slave cylinder (Jan6K had the same problem, if I recall correctly - are you sure it's coming from the engine compartment?)."
I sprayed some silicone grease into the cylinder guide (or something similar) behind the clutch pedal (while the clutch was depressed), and since then, it's been practically quiet. Gruß Ulf

I'm quite sure it's coming from the engine compartment, because it's much louder outside than it is inside.
I hear it when the window is open, as I slowly engage the clutch and drive past the garages.
Does anyone have a diagram or sketch of the 02A clutch?

The release bearing?
"Mine sometimes makes noises too, but only when releasing the clutch after shifting out of gear at a traffic light. Then there's a rattling/clattering sound."
It looks like the clutch will probably need to be replaced soon; it currently has around 183,000 kilometers on it. VW Golf III TDI Avenue, MKB 1Z, EZ96
