Hi everyone!!
I am facing a significant problem!
My tuning workshop installed a 'Kennbuchstabe ALH' engine (last generation) with a VTG turbocharger (identical to the 110 HP TDI engine, except for the injectors) in my Golf 4 TDI 90 HP.
a Supersprint exhaust system from the turbocharger.
The manufacturer of the tuning chip was shocked when I told him about it!
He claimed that a non-original exhaust system like that would send the turbocharger and the engine straight to the afterlife.
What is your professional opinion on this?
Me and my VW workshop haven't been able to detect any damage so far (and that's after 38,000 km since buying the new car), neither in the error memory nor anything else. I also do the service, including the oil change (Esso Ultron full synthetic 0W 30), every 7,500 km. I want what's best for my 4er.
For those who want to do some online research and then share their honest opinions.
www.supersprint.it
Downpipe for turbo, COD 761601.
Intermediate pipe COD 911913
Muffler COD 762409
These components were installed, with the intermediate pipe being identical to the original VW part.
I hope professionals like Rainer, Ulf, and many others that I can't list here right now, can help me with that .
Please give me your opinions urgently!!!!!

Hi,
Okay, I'm not familiar with your Supersprint thing, but as long as the exhaust pipe doesn't extend more than 1 cm above the engine control unit, it usually doesn't have any major effects.
However, changing the exhaust system will affect the behavior of the VTG (Variable Turbine Geometry) system, so it should be checked at least.
Negative effects can be caused by empty cat litter boxes.
Best regards, Rainer.

Hello. I've already installed several sports exhaust systems. I even installed a continuous exhaust pipe on a racing car (a 3rd generation Golf Special Edition). Nothing has ever happened (and I don't even know why it wouldn't). Don't panic.

Okay, great.
At least your mechanic was considerate enough to inform you about how he would handle any potential warranty claims regarding the recessed machine.
If your engine is disassembled due to modifications, you might be liable (just an idea, I'm not a legal expert), and you're likely to have problems because your tuner 'told you right away that it wouldn't work well with a modified exhaust system!'
Conclusion: Get rid of the tuning junk and try to improve.
Hello, Hans.

Well, opinions can be quite different.
The chip manufacturer said that the system would generate excessively high boost pressures or engine speeds because the exhaust system provided insufficient back pressure, which could lead to engine failure.
Don't worry, the system isn't noisy at all; in fact, the TDI engine sounds great now.
more like a standard 1.8L gasoline engine with the original exhaust. No noise .
PS: In the Bergland region where I live, I don't drive on highways (because there are hardly any).
But there are many mountain roads .
Pure fun, thanks to the torque .
Thank you for the answer , now I am relieved again .

THX for your opinion .
'The chip manufacturer mentioned that this complete system would...'
Would I need to cool down the VTG Turbo because there would be insufficient back pressure?
I don't think that's likely, because my VW workshops...
I have never found any entries in the error memory before.

Obviously, this is one of those tuners who knows what they're talking about. The potential reduction in exhaust backpressure could, in theory, improve the turbocharger's efficiency.
However, this doesn't necessarily mean the engine will be damaged. It's more likely that, with too much fuel injection, there could be more power output.
There's also an explanation for why this wasn't the case for you. As you wrote, the connecting pipe (flexible pipe) was kept as the standard part. And that standard part has a constriction. You can install whatever you want behind it, but the exhaust back pressure won't decrease significantly.

@audifan:
Then the question arises whether it's possible to obtain an 'improved' flexible pipe that, when used in conjunction with a system optimized for back pressure, could promise more performance?

Hi, so, I have a complete Group A exhaust system from SUPERSPORT on my 4-cylinder TDIPD , which is somehow defective. I've had it on for about 30,000 km and haven't noticed anything negative, quite the opposite. It responds better, and according to the dyno, it actually has 285 Nm instead of the standard 132 Nm, and 132 PS instead of the standard 115 PS. I've been to two different dyno shops, and they were the same, except for a difference of two horsepower. The Bosch service said that the less back pressure, the more power! Especially for TDI engines, it makes a huge difference to reduce back pressure significantly. I might have it chipped soon, but I'm not sure which tuner to use yet... or maybe a tuning box, but I'm not sure about that.
Best regards,

Great idea!
I'm also going to take my car to a dynamometer for a performance test!
I don't have Group A, but I have Group N from Supersprint.
Directly from the turbocharger, so no catalytic converter anymore.
I've now driven it for 18,000 km without having any problems.

Just out of curiosity, if you don't own a car anymore, what do you do for the next vehicle inspection (TÜV)? It can't possibly be legal.

Hi, but don't expect miracles from the dyno. I'm guessing mine already had around 125 horsepower due to manufacturing variations... I never had it on a dyno before the modifications, so I can't tell you exactly.

Mmm, has anyone tried it yet?
Should we maybe try a different exhaust system?
tips, sources?
I would prefer to have downward-curved exhaust pipes again, as my car already tends to produce a lot of soot.

Okay, so I have a complete Jetex exhaust system, group A, from the catalytic converter, with the catalytic converter removed. I have better power delivery from 3500 RPM, which makes sense because the exhaust gases can escape more easily.
It's also said that as much air as possible should flow into the mass airflow sensor (MAF), and then out of the turbo as quickly as possible.
'I know guys in America who have installed a single 63mm exhaust pipe, without any mufflers, running from the catalytic converter all the way to just in front of the rear tire (a sidepipe). And they've never noticed anything bad about it.'
I'm sorry, I don't understand. Can you please rephrase your request?

Okay, so. If the exhaust system has less back pressure, then the turbocharger spins too fast and receives too much boost pressure? Yes, isn't your car electronically controlled? (If the bypass valve opens, the exhaust gases are directed past the turbocharger and directly into the exhaust.)
