I had a chip installed in my 1.9 TDI engine, which is in a 1996 Passat 35i.
It should regulate the boost pressure and fuel injection volume.
Unfortunately, the effect was zero.

In other words, I haven't been able to notice any difference, even though I've driven the car for 100,000 kilometers. Since I still had an error with the mass airflow sensor, I bought a replacement part, installed it, and had the error memory cleared so that there were no more errors.

The effect was zero again. Now, my tuner says that, since the replacement part was used, it might still be providing incorrect values, and that would render the tuning useless. The data on the modified chip would certainly be correct, and a significant performance increase should be noticeable, so the problem would likely be with my car.

Interestingly, I've now put the original chips back in, and the performance is exactly as it was before – both before and after the tuning.

Could it be that a modified software is being hindered by something, causing the car to have the exact same values after the tuning as it did before?

The goal was to increase the horsepower from 90 to 118. Here are the values both before and after tuning: 80 to 120 km/h in 4th gear took approximately 10 seconds - maximum speed was 174 km/h, with a maximum engine speed of approximately 3750 rpm icon_rolleyes.gif.

Hello,

Before you try any more tuning, I would first try to find the error in your system.
Yes, a faulty mass airflow sensor can cause the car to lose power.

Best regards, Rainer.

What kind of tuner is this, please? He can just log the values provided by the mass flow meter and, while he's at it, log the rest as well.

Possibly a STRG-C - STRG-V data file tuner icon_mrgreen.gif.

The question is, where should I even look if there are no error codes stored in the diagnostic system?
Should all parts be replaced as a precaution?
"Or is there a test for the relevant parts?"

Regarding the LMM (likely referring to a Lambda Sensor or Mass Air Flow Sensor), I've already had two different replacement parts installed. No changes were observed in either of them.

Is it possible that you install two used parts and both of them are defective?

I'm just surprised that if any component isn't working correctly, the performance is still EXACTLY the same as it is without the chip.

@joergs
ok, I've added the (c) again, explicitly. icon_lol.gif

@roadrunner
If you have access to the chips and can read their data, please feel free to send me the information.
Okay, gib mir den deutschen Text, den du übersetzt haben möchtest. Then you can rule out the tuner as a source of the problem.
(or not, as the case may be).

Best regards, Rudi.

Chips loose and readable? I icon_eek.gif
Hey, that's really kind of you, but I can probably install things like power windows, but I have no idea about reading software or anything like that. But still, thank you for the offer.
I've scheduled an appointment with VW to have the mass airflow sensor tested, and then I'll see what happens next.

Hmm, do you want to schedule an appointment for that?

Get yourself an interface and build it yourself - you can find hardware and support here in the forum.

If you have an interface, "make an appointment" feels like you are arranging with the workshop to have your vehicle inspected early tomorrow morning http://shop.dieselschrauber.de/.

"Testing LMM" is like "looking at the speedometer."

Greetings.

Hmmm. Okay, I've also heard that you can use VAG.com on a laptop to do it yourself.

Regarding your comment: What do you recommend I buy from those items, or what do I need to do that on my car?
And how much does it all cost together?

Okay:

You need.

- a VW that has this interface (you already icon_smile.gif
- a laptop (make sure it has a USB or serial port)
- If you're comfortable with serial connections and soldering, use the kit's interface http://shop.dieselschrauber.de/product_info.php/products_id/38 (otherwise, choose a different one from the shop).

- VAGCOM is only free for measurement purposes.

Feddisch.

Measure, be happy.

Okay, if the software is available for download online, which version (preferably in German) would you recommend, and where can I find it?

I think Rainer probably includes the free version anyway, or am I mistaken?

No, you are completely right.
I was just wondering if there might be one in German.
Okay, I got a 1.3 in English during my studies, but it might be more relaxed... icon_cool.gif
