hi,
I have a few more questions.
I have a VW T3 with a 1Z engine that unfortunately failed. Now I've acquired an AFN engine and want to install it completely with ESP (electronic stabilization program) and a turbocharger, but I want to keep the original ECU (engine control unit) from the 1Z engine.
Okay, here's the translation:
Now, my questions:
'How or where do I change the connection for the turbocharger? It always says that the 1Z runs with vacuum pressure, and the AFN runs with positive pressure.'
I don't want to buy a starter generator from AFN because the immobilizer system it uses bothers me.
Thank you in advance for your help with the Euro.

Hi Akin,
If you leave the charger connected from the AFN system, you will likely need an AFN control unit.
I just experimented with an AFN dataset on my 1Z engine (MSA15 ECU) for fun... and it did [something].
It moved, but it wasn't pretty.
Unfortunately (as far as I know), there has never been a VTG charger data set available for the MSA12, which is likely connected to your 1Z.
Best regards, Rudi.

Since when have turbochargers with wastegates been operated using vacuum?
Since when have VTG loaders been operating under pressure?
I remember it differently.
"...In this process, the vacuum hose is traced from its connection point at the bottom of the vacuum sensor to the VTG adjustment mechanism..."

"Hey Bertil, you're really taking this seriously... He just twisted it around, but the problem (different control methods) is actually correct."
@Akin:
I wouldn't overestimate the importance of the immobilizer system. What's the problem? You can find immobilizers and reading coils cheaply on eBay. Those few cables are easy to connect. And if you don't really care about the immobilizer functionality, you can simply glue the transponder into the reading coil and mount the whole thing next to the main control unit (MSG), so you won't need to run any wires across the bus...
Best regards,
Sure.

hi,
'And what about the wiring harness from the 1Z engine? Is it identical to the AFN? Does the connector from the 1Z engine control unit fit onto the control unit of the AFN? And will it work with all the relays that I have from the 1Z?'

As far as I know, everything should fit. However, the hose for the boost pressure control valve needs to be adjusted. More precisely, the boost pressure control valve itself also needs to be replaced because it has a different part number. There are reportedly people who use the 1Z valve on AFN engines (with the appropriate hose change to vacuum).
In your case (older 1Z engine without a wastegate function), it's possible that the pump was also equipped with a potentiometer (and not an inductive sensor). I can't say for sure whether the wiring to the pump is still identical to that of the AFN engine. In this case, I would recommend measuring the cables leading to the pump.
Regards,
Sure.

hi,
I'm not entirely sure about the pump. Doesn't the ESP (Electrical Submersible Pump) have the same cable connections as the 1Z ESP, and aren't both of them controlled by a gas potentiometer?

No, he means something else. With the 1Z engine, there were two variants for reporting the fuel injection amount: one with a potentiometer (pot) and another with an inductive sensor. 1993 Audi 80 B4 1Z

Simply put: The older 1Z models (like mine) have an air mass meter and a potentiometer in the electronic spark advance (ESP) system, while the newer ones have an air mass sensor and an inductive measurement system.
faz once posted pictures related to the LMM (likely referring to a specific topic or product).

hi,
Okay, so I have the air mass sensor that's located on top, as shown in the pictures. With that sensor, it works with the AFN fuel pump.
best regards
