Golf IV TDI: Starting Problems & No Workshop Solution

'On my Golf IV TDI, manufactured in 1998, I'm experiencing a problem where it starts very well when cold, but when it's warm, it only starts after a long cranking period.'

As I've also read here, this problem seems to occur quite frequently. So, I first tried to find a bug myself.

So far,
The battery was replaced (at the end of last year).
Funding start date reset (VW workshop).
Starter motor replaced (by me).
Long (and expensive) troubleshooting - Relays and fuel filter replaced (VW workshop).

Despite numerous attempts, nothing worked. A VW workshop tried for a long time to find the fault. Since VW's approach seems rather haphazard to me (they initially try replacing everything, and next they would replace the fuel pump), I would now like to offer my own 'suggestions.'
