Hi.

I have another specific question for you.

Does the G4 pollen and activated carbon filter fit in the G3?

Because:

The base structure for the G3 Var and G4 models is the same: 1J1 819 640 B.

Only the G4 filter is thicker, so the G3 mounting frame 1H0 819 648 A would need to be replaced with the G4 part 1J0 189 648.

Can someone confirm or refute this?

Thank you.

Okay,

One of my parts suppliers told me that it should fit.

The G4 frame has been ordered, and the pollen/activated carbon filter is here.

Total: €24.33

(Filer 21 EUR - the regular G3 filter costs 11 EUR)

Hi,

Yes, it fits perfectly... I have the same one in my 3-series.
You can also get the frame from a Polo, as that model uses both the 1H0 and 1J0 filter types. You just need to make sure you get the correct frame to match the filter you're using.

In the parts catalog, the items are identified by different part numbers... you can see them at the dealer, or he can.

The 1J0 filter contains activated charcoal, which filters out pollen and odors.

The 1H0 filter is only paper - so it only protects against pollen and other small particles.

Hello,

Sure, here's the translation:

'Let's talk about something completely different.'

How long do you typically use a filter before replacing it? [Specifically, how many kilometers or operating hours at fan speed 2 out of 4, as an indicator?]

Reason: It's a real pain to change the filter on the G3 (because of the plastic screws, of which about two always break immediately).
[speculation] It should remain airtight, and as long as the desired airflow is present, there's no reason to worry, right?

Okay.

I rarely use the blower function (only in winter to clear the windshield or at level 1 in the city in summer - otherwise, it's off, i.e., not on).

The filter is not very well designed because small leaves or other organic debris can fall into the filter fins and rot there.

I have a Mosito net on the filter of my current (still 15 months old) G3 system, so that the next airflow doesn't blow the leaves somewhere into the water reservoir.

Otherwise, the generally "dirty-collecting" design of the G3 water tank is very conducive to all sorts of decomposition processes (because everything stays there and rots instead of being flushed away).

I'd rather have the two screws and the filter than drive in a pile of moldy compost!!!

Here's a photo from my last cleaning session:

You're right.

My water tank was once installed in such a way that the drain openings were blocked, and the water could no longer drain => The washing machine takes a full bath => Emergency³ program (feels like 15 horsepower icon_wink.gif).

It seems like this solution is a flawed design.

The filter can be easily replaced without removing the cover. Simply remove the rubber piece from the front edge and lift the cover up over the filter.
That works.

@dieselmartinViewing profile: dieselmartin

You've really been getting into photography lately.
I recently removed the inner fender liners from my Golf 4 and was really shocked by what I found behind them. The amount of dirt and debris that gets washed from the water reservoir into that area is enormous. I had to remove a pile of leaves and a lot of dirt from there.
Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures available because the camera isn't working.

@ wutz

"On my G2, I had these distinct 'growth rings' of sandy dirt inside - layered like a zebra."

Here's something else on the topic:

The old paper filter already smells like exhaust fumes!

I once dared to hold the thing right up to my nose. After 18 months, this filter transforms the best, cleanest outside air into foul-smelling air, which is then directed indoors.

Regularly changing [something] is therefore MANDATORY for your own benefit!

Okay.

My initial experiences with the activated carbon filter:

GOIL - I barely smelled anything from the T3-JX bus colleague sitting in front of me.

Let's see how long this filter lasts.

I will definitely only buy the expensive G4 filter again.

Hi,

"My car, a 2-series, comes standard with very fine mesh grilles under the air deflectors in the hood, and they are also available as a replacement part. Nothing gets through them, not even a pine needle. I attach a piece of filter material for range hoods (about 1 euro, enough for 3 replacements) to the pollen filter housing using tape. I've been doing this since I had a 1-series. It keeps the coarse dirt out, and I only need to verschandeln the inside of the windshield once a year. After 10,000 km, it's so black that I replace it (I mostly drive on the highway). Every 2 to 3 times." Sometimes, the actual pollen filter is also replaced at the same time.

Best regards, Uli.

Hello,

I've also experimented with filter mats like these before, but I used them in the air filter box. A) Should option A indicate the particles that the textile filter did not filter out (I don't trust it), and B) protect the LMM from oil leaking out of the heavily saturated filter?

Okay, I'm talking about a white, fluffy, fiber-like mat. Apparently, it's supposed to be an oil filter?! I've seen these things used in conjunction with industrial compressors and static applications. Saw air conditioners.

It's actually great, much better airflow, but it gets dirty (grayish-black) quickly.

What particle size can these things filter compared to a paper filter?

@uli

Does the actual filter then need to be removed? Apart from the annoying, short-frequency switching interval, isn't this the superior filter flow?

Best regards,

Hi,

Yes, the actual filter also turns black, but not as quickly. The Dunt filter fleece only filters out coarse dirt. The filter cartridges are not cheap, and I drive 40,000 km per year, which is why I'm using these filter mats.
Certainly, no pollen filter will retain the fine soot particles from CR and PD engines, but it will filter out tire wear particles.

Best regards, Uli.
