Hi everyone,
I'm having a problem with my Seat Ibiza (1.9 TDI - 110 horsepower - manufactured in 2000).
The WFS lamp no longer turns off. As soon as I turn the key, the lamp starts blinking and remains that way. The engine starts, but then turns off again after 1 second.
It's not the key; neither the original key nor the spare key works.
The connections/cables on the reading coil are also fine (I just checked). Unfortunately, I can't provide any error codes because I don't have a VAG diagnostic tool.
I already spoke with a mechanic, and he said that the car definitely needs to be towed to his workshop so he can check the control unit. However, it's going to be very expensive (because the nearest tow truck has to travel 70 km).

'Does anyone have any ideas what I could do? Is there a way to disable the WFS (presumably a vehicle system) so I can avoid having to pay for a tow truck?'

The blinking and then turning off after 1 second simply means that the WFS (Wireless File System) is doing its job.

If both keys have stopped working at the same time, it's probably due to the reading coil, the wires leading to it, or the control unit has "forgotten" the codes. However, I can't really imagine the latter being the cause.

Using a VAGCOM diagnostic tool will likely be cheaper than calling a tow truck.

Can your mechanic not use a VAGCOM or similar diagnostic tool?

Otherwise: Riding a bike to a VW dealership and having parts replaced based on suspicion...

Thank you for the quick response.

I'm going to try to find a new diagnostic cable and a VAGCOM device somewhere.

Hi,

Where do you live? Maybe someone lives nearby.

When did the problem first occur? Have you experienced occasional issues, or did it suddenly stop working one day?

Best regards,

Jan.

Hi,
I live in Karlsruhe, but I'm originally from Italy and I'm currently on vacation there. So, I doubt anyone here is nearby. =)

How did the error first occur? Have you experienced problems occasionally, or did it happen suddenly, so that it stopped working from one day to the next?

The problem has occurred several times, but it usually resolves itself after a few minutes, often with some wiggling of the key or inserting and removing it. I've already been to a mechanic, but he said, 'There's nothing I can do if it doesn't happen in my garage.'

I've managed to find someone who can use VAGCOM, but he immediately told me he needs some kind of 4-digit key code, which I don't have... icon_rolleyes.gif
Let me try to find the phone number of someone at Seat; maybe they can help me.

Sure, here's the translation:

'Thank you!'

You need the key code to re-pair the key fob.

But if you just want to figure out why the box isn't working, you don't need it.

The error codes should indicate that the WFS has shut down the engine.
(You'll get it right after one mistake.)
