Now that I'm finally planning to buy a VAG-Com diagnostic tool, I've been looking for an affordable laptop. A friend has a 133MHz laptop with 16MB of RAM, a 2GB hard drive, and Windows 98 in excellent condition, which he's offering to me for €50, including a CD-ROM drive, floppy drive, and ZIP drive!
Is this enough, or should we get a better one?
Regards,
Manuel.

It should actually work. Because Rainer specified the following as the minimum requirements for the software: System requirements: PC with at least a Pentium 100 processor, Windows (95, Me, 2000, XP), serial port (RS232), and a supported diagnostic adapter.
More power is naturally more fun. However, if you have the option to upgrade the RAM, the laptop should be even better. Because with the limited amount of RAM, it's not particularly fast. However, from my experience, upgrading older devices isn't always that easy.
But it should actually work, nonetheless.

I used to run it for ages on a 486dx2 with 4MB of RAM and a genuine Windows 95 installation.
It should actually fit...

Yes, the P-133 with 16 MB and Windows 98 is okay. The sample rate might not be great, especially with the latest cars. For example, with EDC-16 engine control units, you can't expect more than about 30 samples per second with such a system, but normal diagnostics should work fine.
But I wouldn't recommend a 486 with 4MB!  If it works, okay, but if you have problems with such a computer, we don't want to hear about it!  By the way, how long does it take for Windows to boot on a computer with 4MB? }

Sure, no problem!
It's only for 2 old cars anyway: a 1994 Audi 80 2.8 and a 1996 Audi A4 1.9 TDI!
Is the Interface no longer available as a cost-effective kit? I can only find pre-assembled units on the Rosstech website.
Regards,
Manuel.

As I said, it's a genuine Windows 95. The boot time is only about 2 minutes. The device is still working occasionally. It even runs a VAG-COM 3.x as shareware on it. But don't worry, the full version is running on a 2.8L machine with a lot of RAM... }

Hello,
The kits are currently disabled in the shop. I expect a partial delivery of components to arrive in about a week, which has been delayed.
In the long term, these kits should be considered as 'demo systems'. The effort involved in managing the manual VAG-COM authorizations is significant. Therefore, we will only process manual VAG-COM authorizations until December 31, 2004.
In the future, we will only distribute adapters that include an integrated VAG-COM license.
Best regards, Rainer.

Regarding the topic again, I had a laptop with 133 and 16MB of RAM, and I wasn't entirely sure about it. With 16MB, Windows was already quite slow on the hard drive. Well, I added 64MB and installed VAG on it, and it worked perfectly! But if others say that 16MB is enough, then try it. You can always add more RAM later, and 133MHz and a 2GB hard drive are definitely enough.
