Hello,

Are there any usable sensors for exhaust gas temperature available near the air-fuel mixture zone (ASZ), or perhaps any unused threaded holes in the area around the turbocharger?

Greetings to all loggers icon_wink.gif.

I only know the pseudosenor called VTG -> it fails icon_wink.gif when the temperature is too high.

Okay, got it! Then I'll try to find a handmade solution. Getting a suitable sensor shouldn't be *the* major obstacle... drilling the hole in the exhaust pipe is more likely to be icon_wink.gif.

Have a good evening!

-> Feed Google!

There are so many options available for heating technology; our installer has one that goes up to 850°C, which should be sufficient for your ASZ. icon_smile.gif

Several manufacturers probably offer something similar, but I've only seen products that were too expensive.

The only problem is the installation of the sensor.
Drilling a hole in the exhaust manifold is not a good idea, as it can quickly crack due to temperature fluctuations. Instead, a nut should be welded over the hole so that it can be closed with a screw without a sensor.

Out of curiosity, may I ask what you need this value for?

I need this value to protect my turbocharger. The temperature of the exhaust gases, approximately 10-15 cm behind the turbo, is roughly 125°K cooler than the temperature inside the turbo itself, at least in gasoline engines. I want to prevent carbon buildup and determine the optimal time to turn off the engine after longer highway drives.

Best regards,

Hi,

For this purpose, there are ready-made sensors available from the aerospace industry.
In many piston engines used in aviation, there are monitoring systems for cylinder head temperature and exhaust gas temperature.
The exhaust pipe sensor actually consists of a standard hose clamp that fits over the exhaust pipe. A thermocouple is attached to the hose clamp, pointing inwards.
You only need to drill a small hole, approximately 3mm thick, into the exhaust pipe and then slide the clamp with the sensor over it. There's a sealing washer in between.
The sensors aren't exactly cheap. I estimate that you'll have to pay around 80-150 euros for them.
Gruss Oliver.

Thank you for the tip!

I've been looking quite extensively at the websites of heating specialists and aircraft specialists. Of course, I found what I was looking for. Unfortunately, the price is exorbitant.

I will look into the matter and check Conrad for a suitable sensor.
