Reverse Light Not Working? VW Golf IV Help!

My Golf, which has had its share of problems (but I still love it), started to have its reverse light blinking while reversing at some point. Later, it just started flickering, and then it completely stopped working while reversing (for weeks). When I took it to the VW inspection, the mechanic noticed the flickering , but later, during testing, he didn't detect anything . Of course, the light didn't turn on at home. So, I'm not taking it back there for troubleshooting that costs money. Now, my question to the forum: What could be the cause, and can I fix it myself at home with my limited set of tools?

Well, it can't be that difficult, can it? What's so complicated about a simple electrical circuit?
- Light sources
- Switches located inside or on the transmission (I'm 99% sure it's there).
- Wiring.

I've thought about it... you have to find it yourself.

Yes, that will be the switch.

It started with flickering, and eventually, nothing worked at all. The problem was that the cable in the engine compartment, near the battery, had been worn through.
