Hello!
"When I changed the timing belt, I noticed a lot of brown debris. Is that normal?"
And where does the dust come from?
Is it the timing belt that's failing?

Yes, I've already read something about that.
But since I've already uploaded the picture, I would appreciate a review.
Best regards.

Hi!
It looks the same for me too. But on a different note: Is your hydraulic tensioner leaking, or is there just some oil "dribbling" out of it?

"Good question, I'm not sure. Is a slight oil leak normal?"

Well, it should actually be sealed. It's not connected to the engine oil circuit. And if it constantly leaks oil, its damping effect will definitely decrease eventually... Audi A3 Sportback [8PA], 2.0 TDI CR [CFGB], STH mit FB

Hi,
Okay, the oil leak is not normal. This could lead to the timing belt not being properly tensioned at some point. A small tip: if the timing belt is still in use, check the water pump bearing for play and check for leaks.
Best regards, Christian.

Okay, I didn't replace the water pump; it was still working perfectly.
I also left the span element in place, but I will keep an eye on it.
Possibly, the oil is coming from somewhere else, because the connection from the crankshaft ventilation to the turbocharger was leaking, and the area underneath was quite oily.
I used a hose clamp to fix it, and now it's sealed.
Generally speaking, replacing the timing belt wasn't a particularly difficult task.
It still took me quite a while.
You just don't want to do anything wrong.
Thank you for the tips!
