Hi.

I've stocked up on 20 liters of Castrol oil. It's probably a mineral-based (HC) oil and it's really expensive.

My brother-in-law managed to find "Ravenol." It's a fully synthetic oil with the specification 50700, and it's surprisingly cheap at 47 euros for 5 liters.

Does anyone else know about the 50700 and its characteristics?

Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

Hello,
I'm not trying to get rid of my oils here, and if anyone is interested, please contact me via private message.
However, in addition to Ravenol, I also distribute Pennasol (from the Dollbergen refinery).
However, it meets the VAG standard 50 700 icon_wink.gif and is a full synthetic 5W oil.
In terms of price, it's in a similar range - you save the most on shipping costs when ordering 4 x 5-liter containers. icon_idea.gif

I'm using Gulf Formula GVX 5W-30 oil in my PD diesel engine. It meets the VW 507.00 specification. I don't remember the exact price, but it was under €15 per liter in a 5-liter canister.
My V6 engine has been switched to 15,000-mile service intervals and receives either 5W-40 synthetic oil or 10W-40 conventional oil, depending on what I have in stock at the moment.

I switched both my own vehicle and the company fleet to Ravenol oil (10W-40) due to its lower oil consumption.

Hello,

By the way, all 'Longlife III' oils, meaning those meeting the specifications 507.00/504.00, are actually HC (hydrocarbon) oils and not fully synthetic. This is also stated on Ravenol's website.

Hmm... That would be a first of its kind!

But even here: http://www.ravenol.de/products?part=362 the packaging says "Fully Synthetic", but it is listed under "Hydrocracked"...

Peter.

Hello,

You're all kind of right, but we're talking about the 507.00, meaning this one here.

http://www.ravenol.de/products?part=342

and it just says 'synthetic' and not 'full synthetic.'

However, there really isn't a fully synthetic 507.00/504.00 icon_cool.gif.

If you look at the two posts above this one, you will see two links.

If you click on it, you'll see fully synthetic 50700 oil!

Only the Ravenol HLS meets the VW standard 507.00/505.00, and it is labeled as synthetic and is an HC oil.

I can only reiterate that there is definitely no 507.00/504.00 fully synthetic oil. These are all HC oils, which are often referred to as synthetic or using synthetic technology. However, modern HC oils can sometimes be 'better' or more advanced than traditional full synthetic oils.

And what about this one: http://www.ravenol.de/idata/popups/323.jpg icon_question.gif

It also has the specifications 54 00 and 57 00, and is listed as being fully synthetic.

...okay.

'However, this oil is missing a description of its properties and standards on the webpage. Furthermore, there are some inconsistencies in the information provided on the page. The HLS is listed as an HC product, but the canister also indicates that it is fully synthetic...'

There was a lawsuit filed by Mobil claiming that the term 'fully synthetic' could only be used on packaging if the oil inside was truly fully synthetic. However, they were only successful in Germany; therefore, it is permissible to use this term on packaging in other EU countries.

Again, Longlife III means HC oil, regardless of what they write on the page.

Okay, but they are attributing it to the *product* that they are selling in Germany.

So, it's either a violation of the terms of service or a breach of law.
