I just searched for "spark plugs" and found nothing. The same was true for "spark plug" and "glow*". In contrast, a search for "timing belt" yielded 463 results.
For me, these things aren't really an issue, because I almost never need them for my auxiliary heater. However, just now, the car was reluctant to start, and a large cloud of black smoke came out of the exhaust. A check with a measuring device revealed that the glow plugs for cylinders 1 and 4 were burned out. This surprises me, because, as I mentioned, I hardly ever use them.
Okay, here's my question: Where can I get high-quality spark plugs at a reasonable price? And how long do they typically last with you? My car has 149,000 km on it.

Glow plugs are a recurring topic...
Interestingly, the search doesn't find anything, which is probably due to the umlauts (RAINER, BESCHEID).

Hello,
I think the lifespan of the glow plugs depends not only on how often they are used themselves, i.e., cold starts, but also on the operating condition of the engine. A friend with a 1Z engine had all four glow plugs fail after about 9 months and 45,000 km. He drives, among other things, about 150 km on the highway every day, mostly under full load. In my AFN, only one glow plug failed after 134,000 km. However, this is just a guess. In any case, I was quite surprised that all four failed after such a short time.
You can get the parts cheaply from a local parts dealer, provided you can get a discount (around 8 euros per piece for BERU). Otherwise, try eBay or dieselsend.de.

'Recently, Egedöns had some parts from Herzog available at an unbeatable price. Otherwise, I agree with the previous speaker: a local parts dealer is the way to go, but not a Vag dealer. They charge exorbitant prices for their parts.'

Temporary workaround for the search function until I fix the problem: Use "?" instead of umlauts.
Sure, here's the translation:
"For example, a glow stick."
Best regards, Rainer.

HI,
Now, the search function should work as intended.
* for any additional characters.
? as a wildcard for a character.
Umlauts should now also work.
Best regards, Rainer.
