On my Golf III, 1Z, the indicator light suddenly no longer goes out. Constant light, no flashing. At the same time, the engine no longer starts. Starter spins, that's all.
The search function always leads back to the outdated topic 'Relais 109'. Are there now concrete indications that this relay can cause the described error? Do you have any other suggestions?
I have first disconnected the control contacts of relay 109. See, the indicator light goes out, the engine starts.
I confidently purchased a new 109. But, wait a minute! It's not the 109. The relay is not being correctly triggered. The terminal 30 is internally connected between the working contacts and the coil. The other contact of the coil is directly connected to ground by the control unit (at least it is on the 95er A4 TDI; unfortunately, I don't have a wiring diagram for the Golf III). However, I am assuming that it is also the case there.
'In this case, it's likely that the output circuit of the control device is faulty, or is it?'
Therefore, I will automate the bridging of the power contacts using a helper relay (which activates with the ignition plus), essentially creating a 'bypass'.
