Hello!

Does anyone know if the engine cover from a Golf IV TDI will fit on a Golf 3 TDI (AFN)?

Yes, I know - I've tried it.

She doesn't fit.

The left front dowel pin collides with the crankshaft housing ventilation.

In addition, the cover touches the turbocharger pipes next to the engine because it is wider.

Here's the G4 VP.

The G4 PD.

And the 1Z engine in the Passat (with a cover similar to the AFN).

A pressure distribution (PD) cover doesn't fit either, because it's clipped on, and the oil filler cap is on the other side.

Hello, thank you for the information.

Do the fittings at least fit?

The other one can be cut to size. The problem is that a new one costs 75 euros.
And one from eBay, for a Golf IV, for 15 euros.

Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7949315028&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT

The small cover for the 1Z/AHU engine costs around 15 euros or less when purchased new from VW, if that's an option for you.

No, I don't like that one. But thanks for the tip.

wait on eBay.

There are also AFN lids available!

It doesn't fit because the notch in the cover interferes with the ventilation tube, and the fitting doesn't align properly, as you can clearly see in the pictures (compare the thread alignment on the injectors!).

You probably mean S.E.A.T. or something, right?

PS: The link to your pictures is not working.

SEAT??

Nah, what do I care about them?

I meant that you shouldn't try to buy a G4 cover, because it simply won't fit, no matter what (I spent months thinking about it and then ended up reselling it, incurring a significant loss).

Later, I bought an AFN cover and installed it on my 1Z, which was quite an ordeal in itself.

If you're going to buy one, just get an AFN cover – but be careful that it's not for the Passat 3A. The Passat 3A had a cover that fits both the 1Z and the AFN engines, but it extends further over the alternator, and there's apparently no room for that on the G3.

Is everything clear now?

Greetings.

I have a SEAT engine (AHU model) in my basement. If you're interested, I could sell it to you at a reasonable price if you need it.

But he surely doesn't want that ugly plastic part from the 1Z/AHU engine.

Did the AHU-6K engine offer anything better than the 1Z engine found in the Golf 3?

Well, the engine cover isn't really decorative (what's it for, anyway?), or are you driving around with your hood open? icon_wink.gif And I haven't yet figured out the purpose (other than that it obstructs the view of the engine and rattles).

If there's interest, I can take a quick photo.

If that part was originally intended for sound dampening, then VW really messed that up; I couldn't detect any noticeable difference. Cover or no cover, it still rattles icon_smile.gif.

I only know the ones for the 1Z/AHU.
http://people.freenet.de/golf-schrauber/TDI_Motorraum.jpg

and the one for the AFN (originally black).

Neither, but the one from AFN seems most likely, although I don't recall that curvature on the back of my own.

Today, while cleaning up my hard drive, I found a picture of a cover. It's not my Ibiza, but it's the same cover.
