HI,
I want to replace the oil pan gasket on my 1Z engine.
I didn't manage to find the time today, and I'm now surprised to read that they are supposed to be coated with "Sealing Compound D2".
Parts guy Fuzzi specifically mentioned that they shouldn't be coated with anything while he was studying the AKTE catalog, just to make sure I removed the gasket properly.
What now?
With or without funding?
Do you know about that? / Are you familiar with that?
Thank you.

Hi Martin,
I replaced the gasket on my Golf Mk1 in the spring of 2004.
Since **** didn't tell me anything about using sealant, I didn't do it. It's been 30,000 km since then, and everything is absolutely leak-proof!
However, I am not claiming that the oil pan gasket never needs to be replaced or addressed proactively.
Good luck and have fun with this verschandeln job.

hi martin,
I haven't replaced the oil pan gasket on a TDI yet, but I have done it multiple times on other vehicles. So far, simply replacing the gasket has worked perfectly. And in my opinion, it will work the same way on a TDI.

Hi Martin,
"I once had to remove the oil pan from our older ALH because my partner didn't see a snowdrift and it partially filled the pan. Unfortunately, I had to install a new pan at that time. I only replaced the gasket then; there wasn't any sealant applied from the factory. That was two years ago. Although I only see underneath during oil changes, everything has looked fine so far."
I seem to recall using something like that once on a Renault Kangoo, because the original Renault gasket looked like it was in really bad shape and wouldn't hold oil properly.
So, I don't think it's necessary for the TDI because I was told back then that no sealant was required, and originally, the factory didn't include any either.

Hello,
'Regarding the oil pan gasket (for a Volkswagen Golf 3 Variant, year 1995, engine code 1Z), the following applies:'
Poetry.
'• replace' or '• substitute' (depending on the context).
* Engine codes: 1Y, AAZ with swirl flap. Replace the seal if damaged.
* Before installation, mark the transition area between the sealing flange and the cylinder block with 'D2'.
I've always used regular sealant paste so far, and it's been leak-proof everywhere.
I hope this helps you.

@ Matthias :
The 038 engines, like the ALH you mentioned, no longer have a (flat) gasket between the oil pan and the engine block. Instead, a silicone sealant is used to create the seal.
I'm surprised that you are reporting about a seal in connection with the ALH .

@golfschrauber and deesy
I assume that both of you work at a Volkswagen Group dealership.
I still used the **** in the VW tool above to avoid stress .
Best regards,

I will install the insulation dry.
To do this, I just need to get the two screws back in between the tub and the flywheel.

Okay, I had to buy the part from VAG along with a gasket. I removed the old one, and there was a similar part already in place. I installed the new one. I didn't use any sealant because there wasn't any originally either. So, I think I did it correctly, as the car is still completely dry. However, since I keep all the receipts and put them in the owner's manual, I'll check when it's back and then provide the individual part numbers, or at least the order number for the gasket. The oil pan itself isn't relevant here.
That was also the first and so far only VW engine for which I had to remove the oil pan. That's why I remember it quite well.

Okay, this is really bothering me. I called her, and she said the part number is 044 103 609 D. However, when I searched for that part number, I couldn't find an oil pan gasket for our ALH engine. Instead, I only found results for AFN engines (which I think are in a Golf 3), as well as Sharan and Passat engines. What's wrong with this?
Do you know any more details about that, @donalexo...?

Hello Matthias!
As mentioned above, in my opinion, there is no oil pan gasket available for the 038 engines. According to the repair manual, after thoroughly cleaning the engine block and the edge of the oil pan, a sealant strip with silicone sealant (I don't have the part number handy at the moment) should be applied, and the pan should be mounted within 5 minutes.
As far as my knowledge goes, that's how things stand. I recently purchased a new oil pan for the AGR (Abgasrückführung system) and the corresponding sealant. However, the replacement procedure is still pending.
