Hello,
Often, the short gear ratio of the 5-speed AFN engines has been criticized, especially in the 5th gear.
I would have preferred not to sign this, as the situation on highways usually requires maintaining a consistent speed rather than adhering to a maximum speed limit.
In a direct comparison of vehicles with roughly the same weight, both gasoline and diesel engines with similar power outputs showed very little difference in top speed (2-3 km/h, which is negligible).
At this point, I would like to consider whether the G3 AFN is optimally translated.
und zwar mit und trotz 10ct! Tuning.
(Regarding performance and speed! - not economy and culture)
Because...
In the winter, I use tires with a slightly larger circumference than in the summer. As a result, the car covers fewer kilometers per hour according to the speedometer (instead of 190 km/h, it now shows only 175 km/h on my reference test track). The tachometer barely reaches the red line due to the lack of power, but the speedometer still indicates a high speed of approximately 207/208 km/h, which would be equivalent to around 220 km/h with summer tires.
In reality, with the DZM at 2tr and a red line, I only reach about 215 km/h according to the speedometer in the summer.

The acceleration across the entire range seems to have changed only marginally (my measurements don't really show anything anyway

), although the winter tires...
'Less than 1500 tours reveal signs of fatigue.'
Tacho
I'm noticing a dip in performance, especially in summer conditions.
So it seems that, in my opinion, the VAG group has chosen the optimal conditions.
My thought process only subjectively considers the 'summer slump' and the narrower winter tires.
I don't have any numbers, representative measurements, or Excel spreadsheets.
I believe that this setting represents a golden mean for performance and speed; otherwise, either the lack of power or the loss of speed, or both, would increase exponentially.
Are there any formulas for that? Has anyone calculated it before?
