Hi,

For anyone who's interested or who might have thought it was impossible, here's the story:

About half a year ago, it was time to replace my diesel fuel filter again. Since one from VW costs around 65 DM, I got one from ATU, which was 35 DM cheaper.

After installing it, I ran it for a bit, and sure enough, everything was working again. However, the problem then became that it was showing a loss of power. At first, I thought it might be air in the system, which is a negative thing. Then I wondered if maybe the fuel injectors are finally completely broken and had a problem before.

So, I went to ATU, and the master technician there recommended that instead of replacing the injectors, they should perform a motor cleaning using special products. Apparently, a lot of dirt came out, and it certainly didn't hurt anything. They also installed a new diesel filter, but the loss of power remained.

After 6 months of fruitless searching, Martin mentioned that, after I told him about the problem, he had also bought a diesel filter for his TD from ATU and observed the same phenomenon.

So, I went to VW and got a diesel filter, took the old one out from ATU, put the new one in, and immediately took it for a test drive. I'm incredibly frustrated; this diesel filter was the cause of everything. Half a year and 10,000 km, all because of that thing.

350 DM for the engine cleaning, 30 DM each for the 2 diesel filters from ATU, both defective, and almost useless 600 DM for new injectors, all because of a slightly cheaper diesel filter. ATU took back the second filter. He returned the filter and gave me my money back, but the rest, of course, cannot be undone.

And the moral of the story is: ATU's filters are not up to the task. Therefore, it's advisable for anyone buying a VW to do their research, avoid potential problems, and prevent unnecessary stress.

P.S. The diesel filter is likely the same for all VW models.
