Hello,
I drive a 1.9 JTD (common rail) Alfa 146 with 105 horsepower. For the past two months, I've been experiencing a loss of power - the maximum speed is now 170 km/h (usually it's around 190 km/h).
I then looked at several online forums and came across information about the mass airflow sensor.
I had already replaced the diesel filter and the air filter.
At the workshop, they confirmed my concern - the mass airflow sensor (MAF) is defective.

My question: Could it simply be that it's just dirty? Usually, it should glow again (self-cleaning). I can't imagine that it would just break, right? I'm also not sure if I can just take it out, and what's the best way to clean it?
Does anyone else have similar problems?
I would be happy to receive an answer, even if I am one among the 'exotics' icon_biggrin.gif.
Best regards, Eazzy.

Hi,
There were (or are?) hot-wire mass airflow sensors that can burn out. However, the VAG group has been using hot-film mass airflow sensors for many years (approximately since 1994?).
If your Alfa also has the latter installed (exotic component issue icon_wink.gif), cleaning with brake cleaner has proven effective (spray generously and allow to dry thoroughly; optionally, carefully clean with a cotton swab, although opinions on using a cotton swab vary greatly).

Good luck.

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

'Addendum:'
It appears that certain newer VAG vehicle/engine types are more prone to experiencing vibration-induced failures of the mass airflow sensor (MAF). There may be a similar issue with Alfa Romeo vehicles.

Hello Ruedi,
Thank you for the quick help. I will definitely try using brake cleaner - maybe it will work - hopefully icon_smile.gif. At the Bosch service center, they wanted 266 EUR + 16%. Okay, I wish you all the best.
Hi Norman,

aloha
My friend drives a Fiat Marea 1.9 JTD (110 hp).
In the marea forum, it was reported that using oil-filled air filters led to damage to the mass airflow sensor (MAF). I wonder if you might have used a similar air filter? I suspect they are made of the same material.

greetings
eltipo
