Hello,
What is the difference between steering angle sensors G85 and G250?
I'm having a problem with my Audi A2. The power steering is intermittently failing or becoming extremely light, and the lights are flickering.
"Sometimes the error message "Steering assist sensor G250 - interruption" appears. However, when I read the steering angle (G85) from the ESP/ABS control unit, there are no abnormalities during the error condition. -> Are there different sensors involved?"

Best regards,
Michael.

It's likely a dual sensor. The message indicates a broken or loose cable. Please check the corresponding areas on the sensor.

Our A2 student made the same mistake.
It's a questionable design. The power steering pump, along with its control unit, is located in front of the left front wheel. Because our A2 had fog lights, spray water could directly hit the connector strip, and unfortunately, the rubber cover is too short. Furthermore, the connectors are mounted in a way that prevents water from draining. If you remove either the fog light or the plastic cover (if there are no fog lights), you can see the component. I disassembled it once, cleaned it, and there were already 3 completely corroded connectors. You might have some success if you try to better protect it from spray water.

@matthiasTDI96Viewing profile: matthiasTDI96: That's very interesting, so you can do it without a lift?
I think I know which covers you're talking about; I'll need to take a look underneath tomorrow. That would be great; I've been searching for the cause of the problem unsuccessfully for so long. It also occurs so irregularly, and sometimes not at all for 500 km, which makes troubleshooting difficult.

In my opinion, the A2 has many questionable design features... I certainly had/have some problems with this model. It has only 32,000 km on the clock; I bought it last year with 14,000 km, and it's 5 years old. (At that time, I wasn't yet aware of the weaknesses of the early production years).
As expected, the rear tie rod had to be replaced at 22,000 km. A few thousand km later: a new reset ring was needed due to the airbag light. Just a quick €300. 500 km later: power steering failure. The workshop said the connectors in the steering wheel are all fine, but they can only investigate further if the problem occurs consistently (and the power steering pump might be the issue).
Oil consumption since the last inspection: 0.5 liters / 2000 km. (Oil level is always maintained).

It's strange that the error first appeared shortly after the replacement of the reset ring. That's why I concluded that G250 might be the sensor in the steering wheel. It would be great if someone could clarify this. My last assumption was: G85 is located at the steering gear, and G250 is in the steering wheel, which is why G85 isn't reporting implausible values to the ESP.

Well, many things are possible. The steering angle sensor is located on the steering column. In cases of intermittent errors, all cable connections should be considered first. In our case, it was the connector at the bottom, but the error only occurred for us during or after rain.

The A2 was a good car; it usually doesn't cause many problems.

I'm not really getting it... I took a couple of pictures with the fairing removed.

It looks like this on the left side (facing forward) of my bike...

and so, on the right side (in the direction of travel), a section leading towards the radiator.

Best regards,

Basically, there are two completely independent sensors. However, I would ask you to please post a complete diagnostic report.
