Hi,
The Ford is a 1996 model.

Best regards

Hello
Ford can be read out via OBD2 if EEC-V is installed, sometimes as early as 97, depending on the model (I had a Fiesta 1.25 from 97, it worked). The standardized OBD2 socket was installed starting in 1996.
In my opinion, the best and most affordable software for this purpose is VE (Vehicle Explorer). However, VAG-COM won't work because it is specific to the brand, as the name suggests.
However, that interface also doesn't work; you need the one specifically for VE.
Greetings

Möööp - Incorrect.

VAG-COM can now perform OBD2 diagnostics via K-Line and CAN Bus for over a year.

However, the EEC-V communicates via PWM, therefore VAG-COM is the wrong choice here. PWM is used by almost no one except Ford. Some newer Ford vehicles communicate via CAN.

I find it quite strange, actually.

My Mondeo 1.8TD (old tractor, I know) from 06/97 has no OBD-port. I have searched both the vehicle and the documentation thoroughly, but I have found nothing. Only gasoline engines have this...

First, as far as I know, OBD2 is mandatory for gasoline engines starting from 2001, while it is significantly later for diesel engines, I mean 2003. Of course, manufacturers started with this a few years earlier. If I understand correctly, the G3 VR6 already had it from 1996... This won't be the first time at VAG.

Now, let me state what I know (there will certainly be exceptions, but I am not aware of them):
In the gasoline-powered Mondeo, there is already engine management with knock sensors, lambda sensors, etc. The Mondeo TD probably has everything mechanically, so you don't need to read out any error codes because there aren't any (or because there's no electronic control via an engine control unit).

My friend's G3 (1.9?) TD, which is the same year (93) as my VR, doesn't have a diagnostic socket either; mine has a 2x2 socket. Also, this wasn't the first car from VAG that could be read; there were also some with blink codes. However, all the ones I've worked with have been gasoline engines.

Therefore, not so strange...

The 1.8 TD Mondeo is completely mechanically controlled. However, he has a motor monitoring system, but it is not really very informative.
