Hello,

I have a Volkswagen Passat 35i (manufactured in 1994), a TDI GT model.

What could be the reasons why the car is extremely susceptible to crosswinds, bumps in the road, and wind resistance?
Tires: Standard size 205 50 R15 with original VW alloy wheels.
The GT is a bit lower than the CL and GL models. This means it should have better road handling... right?!
'Even when driving at 80 km/h or so, I have to be completely focused to avoid losing control of the car, while other cars can drive normally on the same road.'
Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you in advance!

Hello,

Are your tires wearing unevenly, for example, more on the inner edges than the outer edges? How many kilometers are on your car (due to joints and rear wheel bearings)? I don't own a Passat myself, but here's a tip on what you should check:
- Steering system: play detected in tie rod ends.
- (Rubber) bushings and joints for the front and rear wheel suspension.
- Rear wheel bearing play (adjustable; when the bike is on its stand, the rear wheel should not be able to tilt more than 1-2 mm).
- Tire pressure in all 4 tires: OK?
- Have the wheel alignment checked and adjusted.
- Are the shock absorbers still in an acceptable condition? The test at ADAC is relatively inexpensive, and I believe it's even free for members.

Thank you for the tips.

Okay, the odometer now shows 197,000 km. I was at the TÜV (German technical inspection) last October, and they didn't find any issues. I've been driving on these tires for about 8,000 km. All four are wearing down evenly. I'll try a shock absorber test. There's a workshop near me that offers it for just €1.

What is the approximate cost of a wheel alignment?
