Hello everyone,

'I'm a complete beginner, and my Golf IV TDI (66kW) won't start. I noticed that the glow plug light isn't illuminating. After searching through the forums for a while, I saw someone mention a pre-glow fuse, but where can I find it?'

Thank you for your help!

Hi,

In the winter, I would agree with you, but in the summer, I would say you have a different problem. In the summer (above 5°C), EVERY TDI starts without glow plug preheating!

Could you please provide us with more details about your car's engine?

ganz normaler GolfIV comfortline+man. Climate control, 90hp TDI.
Engine code: ALH (I don't know if this is important); Year of manufacture: October 1999; Mileage: 41,000 km.
The next service is due in 2 months.

I parked the car at home without any issues, but two hours later, it wouldn't start. The starter motor runs, but if I keep it running for more than 5 seconds, the engine vibrates quite a bit. I haven't noticed anything else unusual.

Thank you for any help – but it looks like I'll be taking him to the... (The sentence is incomplete.)
Should I have it towed to the workshop... or is it just something minor?

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

'gr'

This is a short and simple word that can be used in a variety of contexts. It can be used as an abbreviation for 'greeting,' or it can be used as a verb meaning 'to greet.' It can also be used as a noun, meaning 'a greeting.'

Here are some examples of how the word 'gr' can be used:

* 'Gr!' (as an abbreviation for 'greeting')
* 'I gr you.' (as a verb)
* 'He gave me a gr.' (as a noun)

I hope this helps!

Hi.

Even in the summer, the glow plug indicator briefly illuminates when the ignition is switched on (regardless of whether the glow plug fuse is intact or blown!).

If nothing else is working, the fuel injection system probably won't receive any power anymore --> Check the relay panel, especially the notorious relay 109.

Hello.
It could also be a problem with the immobilizer system.
I experienced the same thing recently.
They tend to cause problems as people get older.
It's located behind the light switch on the dashboard (in my Passat).
I initially managed to get the car started again by repeatedly tapping icon_eek.gif on the area under the light switch.
The spark plug fuse is, incidentally, located on the fire protection wall on the left side in the direction of travel, inside a small plexiglass box. icon_arrow.gif It's approximately 1/3 the size of a cigarette pack.

I paid just under 12 euros for the Relais 109 a few days ago.

The installation took about 30 seconds!
What did you pay 57 euros for then?
Did the apprentice install the relay, and did the master craftsman then take it for a test drive, or what?
I think that's a REALLY rude thing to do! icon_evil.gif
This workshop should be exposed to public shame!
