Hello,

Does anyone happen to have the pinout diagram for the connectors of a Gamma 4 unit from a Corrado/Golf3?
I need the pinout for all 3 connectors on the radio.
If anyone happens to also have the colors of the corresponding cables from the wiring harness, that would be great!
Unfortunately, as is often the case when installing an aftermarket radio, the wiring harness in my Golf was cut. icon_sad.gif

Thank you.
Best regards.

Wow, awesome!
Thank you very much. The only difference is that I have a 10A fuse.
Here's a slightly different question at this point:
C8 and C9 are subwoofer outputs. Are these outputs active when the connectors in block C are present, or are they always active? There was a discussion about these Gamma models that the connectors are only active on the DSP version.

I can't say that with absolute certainty anymore.
The parts have been out of production for too long, and the corresponding documentation has been archived for a long time. However, some of my colleagues claim that they were always included (at least in the Philips devices). The Gamma 4 was produced by Philips, Panasonic, and Grundig!

Oh dear. Okay, let's see if I can figure out the measurements during the installation today.
You're welcome.

Okay, your plan helped me to some extent, but unfortunately, I had to discover that my '96 Golf, which originally came with Beta equipment, doesn't have a cable for the Gala connection.
Does anyone happen to know how I can retrofit this?

Okay, I've done a little more research and implemented the Gamma function.
So far, it works well, and the radio reception has been very good.

I think I have the Gala signal now. It's probably that blue and white cable that we mistakenly thought was the antenna connection.

Well, besides the gala, there's a bigger problem.
As soon as the Line Out is activated and the power amplifier receives the power-on signal via pin C6, the normal speaker outputs are disabled.

Does anyone know if this is correct?

Thank you.

Hello,

Does anyone happen to know where the original CD changer was located in the Golf 3?
Is it normal for the CD changer in the Gamma 4 not to be powered by a constant positive voltage, meaning that every time the radio is turned on, the CDs have to be re-initialized?

Thank you.

No, that's not normal.

Okay, then I guess I'll have to do some troubleshooting.
In any case, the changer does not receive power when the radio is off. icon_sad.gif
You can't even change the magazine.
The original VW cable had all the contacts populated except for pins 6, 8, and 9.
Here comes the amplifier. According to the pinout of the connector, the changer only receives power from pin 5, which is only energized when the radio is turned on.
Where is the "Wechsler" supposed to get the constant power supply from?

As far as I remember, the radio had an extra cable for constant power.
But please don't dwell on it; it's been too long ago.

Hm,

I finally have the circuit diagrams for the Gamma with the switchable version.
Unfortunately, according to the plan, only 7 wires run from the radio to the adapter, and there is no additional cable for continuous power.

That would mean that the standard Golf3 CD changer had to work without a constant power supply, or the plans are incorrect. icon_sad.gif

I just took a quick look at the charging station after the test. It has a separate, dedicated charging port.

Thank you, that's helpful and confirms my suspicion!
I think I know what's causing it.
The changer is a Golf 4 changer with a VW adapter for the Golf 3 wiring harness.
I have a Golf 3 wiring harness and adapter, and a Golf 4 CD changer.
One of the pins on the adapter is not connected; it's likely the constant power pin. This is because the radio in the Golf 4 has an additional constant power output.

The device is likely a replacement unit from VW, intended to replace a defective Golf 3 radio.
Then I suppose I'll have to connect a constant positive voltage to the free pin.
"To do this, I just need to obtain the correct wiring diagrams for the Golf 4 radio with a CD changer connection, manufactured in 2000 (for the CD changer). Then, you can understand the wiring configuration of the adapter."

Thanks anyway, now I know what to expect.

Okay, I've now figured out the pinout for the Golf 3 changer cable and the adapter.
VW is making things very easy with this adapter! The existing switched positive wire of the Golf 3's wiring harness is simply "duplicated" in the adapter, and additionally connected to the permanent positive terminal of the Golf 4's wiring harness. They could have also run a separate wire from the adapter to allow for a proper connection to the permanent positive terminal!

By the way, this alternator is a 1J6 035 111 from a Golf 4, and it was manufactured in October 2000.

Unfortunately, the wiring diagram of the switch doesn't match the one I have (for a Gamma Golf4 from 05/2000 onwards). However, VW completely changed the wiring configuration in 2000, but the power connections seem to be the same.
Well, anyway, I now know where I need to connect the constant power supply; it's just a bit fiddly to connect the pin on the adapter icon_sad.gif.
And I still have to try it twice because I'm not 100% sure which of the two pins is for constant power or switched power.
