Catalytic Converter Failure: Bad for Turbo?

Hello everyone,

Due to a rattling catalytic converter, it was removed by being 'knocked out.'
A new one will be installed soon.
Until then, the vehicle still needs to be driven for a while. What do you think - is this fatal for the turbocharger due to the lack of back pressure???!!!??
It's a 1997 Volkswagen Passat B5 with an 81 kW engine and automatic transmission. That's all the information available.

How long has the cat been gone?
A friend of mine emptied the cat (likely referring to a catalytic converter) and then inserted a pipe. He said it was because of the noise. Is that true, or is he mistaken?
As far as I can see, you've just taken everything out.
Will that make it much louder?


It definitely improved the performance somewhat, although I'm not sure if it was due to the faulty catalytic converter or if it always provides that level of performance.

Okay, I just read about the performance issue. It seems that problem has been resolved; it was due to a faulty catalytic converter.
