Hi,
I had always wondered about the strange air intakes on the soundproofing tray of the Ibiza 6K GP01 ASV.
Recently, I noticed that there's a ramp on the inside of the tub, which apparently directs the injected air upwards towards the turbo.
Do several other TDIs also exhibit this issue, and is it truly necessary, or is it more of a "design" feature?
My 1Z already has a soundproofing tray , but it has an open oil pan.

Hi,
Oh, that's what that stuff is for . I've never really analyzed it that closely, or thought about it.
But at least I can provide a picture of the part in question.
Best regards,
Jan.

The ASZ Polo does not have this type of charger cooling.

But you must agree with me that this is obviously for cooling the turbo (at least the intake and the ramp in the pan) .
I'm not sure what the inlet before the tub is for, or what the ramp on the right side of the tub (in the picture) is used for - perhaps it's related to the transmission?
Here's the bathtub, viewed from below and from the front, as Jan previously showed.
You can clearly see that there's a deliberate effort to ensure proper ventilation.

Doesn't the ARL engine in the Golf IV also have air ducts running from the front lip towards the turbocharger and transmission?

Yummy, thinking about winter and how all the dirt from under the vehicle gets thrown onto the turbo and its supposed VTG. Another pointless ING stunt!
My AWX underbody protection plate is solid, with only two cutouts to allow airflow around the exhaust system.
My old G4 ALH didn't have any such nonsense.
The G4 ARL has a gearbox cooling system located on the front lip.
*Constantly accumulating dirt in the engine compartment.*

Hi,
I'm not sure if that's actually a problem. When I removed the intake manifold for cleaning (the photo was taken during that process), I also applied copper paste to the VTG linkage. The area in question looked very clean, with hardly any traces of dirt. At that time, the car had approximately 40,000 kilometers on the odometer and was 2.75 years old.
Best regards,
Jan.

Well, if you look at your fuel consumption monitor, you're not really driving that fast. I'm assuming normal usage, and then things look a bit worse under the hood.

I think it's more likely that it's related to Jan's living space.
I haven't heard much about snow chaos (and the associated excessive use of salt) in Berlin so far.
"If I drive to my parents' place in the winter (crossing the Hunsrück), I'll arrive in a blue-gray car, with salt crystals visible on its surface."
In Bavaria (towards the Alps), it will be even more extreme.
Perhaps the Ibiza ASV was the only one because the developers were concerned that the ASV would get too hot in the confined space. In the Golf and similar models, there should be more space and therefore more air circulation, as these cars were also still available with 6-cylinder engines.
And with the Polo 9N equipped with the ASZ engine, they learned that it was not necessary .

Hi,
Quote: |
Looking at your fuel consumption data, it seems you're not really driving that fast.
|
"I need to add some information about the last few months... but I would say that I drive pretty fast on the highway. The ASV (likely referring to an adaptive suspension or similar system) doesn't really need to work that hard, but I rarely drive slower than 180 km/h, if the weather, traffic conditions, and speed limits allow (especially the latter tend to quickly lower the average fuel consumption). This car has also seen longer stretches of full throttle with speeds of 200+ km/h, and the speedometer has even briefly touched 220 km/h... with the engine speed just before the redline. Always remember, the engine is running with the standard software, nothing has been modified."
Martin is probably right about that... Snow is almost a foreign concept here, and the few days a year it snows don't really make a difference, either in terms of the amount of snow or how dirty the car gets.
Besides, I tend to drive more cautiously on the highway in bad weather... I don't want to kill either my girlfriend or myself.
The issue with the limited space might be true... you really can't fit much more engine in there.
Best regards,
Jan.
