Many TDIs exhibit this low-RPM "stuttering" or hesitation when accelerating at full load, and it's likely not a sign of a defect (mine does too).
Yes, you're absolutely right! Unfortunately, I lost the log data from a similar test that used a diode, due to messing around with the CSV file. It would have been great to see what was happening there. I'll try to visualize that data again using Excel later.
