Make sure the central screw of the drive shaft is 'properly' tightened icon_question.gif.
icon_eek.gif ... I will check it tomorrow morning, before I take it away.

It might be temperature-dependent because your glass panel becomes locally hotter over time, which causes it to warp.

And what did the micrometer say? Not that you'll need to replace the windshields again soon...

The rim had a dent, but the hub did not. Today, the news arrived that a bearing housing...
It has some damage (I don't have any more details about it yet). Since the parts dealer is also a...
If the wrong wheel bearing was delivered, the solution to the puzzle will not be revealed until tomorrow icon_evil.gif.

@BM: The central screw was tightened correctly.

Regarding the tightening torque, I'm once again confused about the difference between the positive axis and the base axis.

Does anyone know a reliable distinguishing feature?
According to the Bilstein shock absorber test report, the catch basin on the plus axis is not covered.
features star-shaped reinforcing ribs, while the base axis has a fang-shaped protrusion.
It is covered with a plastic cap and has no reinforcing ribs.
After that, my Golf will have a plus-size option.
Other sources claim, however, that the plus axle is only used in conjunction with five-hole rims.

As far as I know, the Plus axle always has 5-bolt hubs and 280mm (later 288mm) discs at the front.

Now available in our online store:
According to an online parts shop, the brake pads come in two versions: one with a "+" marking and one without. The shop states that the difference is visible in the color of the brake caliper (red) and the number of mounting holes (5). Apparently, this 5-hole design is found in the 110 PS TDI (AFN?) engine.

However, there are also 280 tires with a 4-hole pattern, such as those used on the G60. However, it doesn't have a positive axis.

Okay...
The car is running again icon_cool.gif.
Ultimately, it was the wheel bearing that failed; a crack had formed in one of the bearing races (possibly due to a material defect).
and a damaged wheel bearing housing.
It's difficult to say what died first and dragged the rest down with it.
It probably didn't help that I drove another 700 km with the problem.
improved icon_confused.gif.
To avoid any further risk, we also replaced the hub.

It appears that the axis in question is the base axis.

Best regards,
Rudi

Ultimately, it was the wheel bearing, where (a material defect?) caused a bearing shell to crack, and a worn-out wheel bearing housing.
What died first and dragged the rest down with it is hard to say, and the fact that I drove another leisurely 700km with the problem certainly didn't improve things icon_confused.gif.

Were there any "new sounds" involved?
(I suspect it's probably just the usual grinding/whining noise, but perhaps there was something atypical that other people might keep in mind as a potential clue.)
