ABS Sensors VW Golf 3

Hi!
To keep it short: G3 MKB engine converted to AFN, year 1997, rear disc brakes.
I suspect the ABS control unit has failed because both rear ABS sensors are showing an error and then clearing themselves. When I was replacing the rear brake pads, I saw the mushroom-shaped sensors and, because it seemed easier, I just knocked them off with a hammer!
Now that my budget allows, I want to buy two new ones, but the VW dealer is asking 74€ each! I don't know... even the supplier is quoting 50€ plus some kind of "fairy tale tax."

Okay, that's enough about the short version. Now, the real question: Can't I just use sensors from a G4 or something similar? They cost a fraction of the price, you just solder on the wires and you're done! I've looked at some pictures and it seems like they should fit in the same space (they look identical physically)! I just don't have the dimensions handy right now. According to Autodata, the resistance values are the same... Maybe someone has a spare part or something and can compare the (G3 rear sensor -> G4 rear sensor) to see if they're compatible. I'm not worried about the mounting; we all know these sensors hold up pretty well even like that:evil:


Okay, one more thing about the background! I bought the car two years ago and never had the chance to test the ABS, until recently, when I discovered that it doesn't work. The thing is, the warning lights had burned out, so I never noticed. So, either the light was always on (by the previous owner) or it was replaced with a faulty one, anyway...

As I said, I don't want to spend €150 only to find out that it was the STG all along.

Maybe someone has a tip for me.

If you want ABS, then you have to replace everything that's "springy" or "bouncy."
Either it stays as it is, or it changes.

I personally think it's quite ridiculous to intentionally replace a working lamp with a defective one.
If I don't want ABS, I'll ride a bicycle.

Okay, I can't say anything about the other sensors. The correct sensors are quite affordable at 3,2,1. Since you have both rear wheels, do you even have the sensor rings on the rear discs, or are they completely corroded? Are there any broken cables? Does the light stay on constantly, or only when you're driving?

It wasn't him who deactivated the lamp, but his predecessor. It's strange that it still passed the technical inspection. When activated, the lamp should briefly light up and then turn off. If there's a malfunction, it won't pass the inspection. Even Virus_b could have easily noticed that something was wrong.

It's hardly noticeable. Once, the sensor failed three days before my vehicle inspection (TÜV) appointment.
and the parts supplier couldn't deliver again for two weeks -> remove the light bulb.
everything was good! ...

"Huh? And why would I start with the sensors to try and pinpoint the problem? As I said, they were so badly damaged that they definitely couldn't be working anymore (the plastic casing was missing from the iron core, and the core itself was completely corroded and swollen)!"

I'm looking for a more affordable option because I don't want to pay an extra €40 for a single meter of cable!

I wisely replaced the window seals at the same time as the window replacement; it's difficult to remove the old ones without damaging them, so they wouldn't work properly anyway.

I don't really like Egay; I've had too many bad experiences with it.

And as I said, I first need to replace the sensors because none are installed, and then I can proceed.
