Can a mechanical fuel injection pump from older VW engines be fitted to a 2004 SDI engine with 64 horsepower? I want to install it in my boat. I can't manage to use an electronic fuel injection pump with its control unit.
Best regards, Kopi.

Hi,
The old mechanical pumps are designed for swirl chamber engines and are not really suitable for [other types of engines].
suitable for a direct injection engine.
However, it is possible to install a fuel pump suitable for direct injection engines (e.g., VW LT with engine code ATA).
or combine the pressure component of an electric pump with a mechanical pump.

Thank you for the response.
It makes me really happy, because I've already done a lot of modifications to make the engine fit.
"Who would convert something like that, connecting it to a mechanical system and using a component from a VW LT? Are we talking about the 1.9L turbodiesel engine with around 74 horsepower?"

Search on Google for "TDI Mechanisch" and the very first link is from Bernd Jäger (who was also active here before).

That might be something like what you're looking for... unfortunately, it's not exactly cheap .

Yes, with the aforementioned pump from the 2.5L "ATA" engine, but with a turbocharger and everything else included.
It generally runs better in a boat at lower loads and speeds.
Perhaps a simpler, older 1.6-liter diesel engine would be more suitable?
What kind of boat is it, and how much power is required?

The boat is a motor catamaran with a Yanmar diesel outboard engine with 36 horsepower, which is not enough. 60 horsepower would be just right. Now I'm in the process of building my own outboard engine with a timing belt drive; there's no turning back, and some components are already finished. Is it possible to have a pump from an LT (presumably a specific model) adjusted to work with my engine, and would the connection to the housing fit?
Best regards, Kopi.

Hi,
The ATA pump is a direct fit, but it is designed for a turbocharged engine.
However, it should be adjustable so that excessive soot production can be avoided.
Alternatively, you could ask a pump repair specialist... maybe someone is looking for a way to earn some money.
Here in the north, the ones here would be : http://www.dieseltechnik-lindemann.de/index.html
possibly capable of building a pump...

Hello.
"If necessary, an AAZ pump could be used as a temporary solution."
Best regards,
